Stay away from MBM. They are one the worst companies I've ever worked for.

In a lot of these local gigs, and Mclain and MBM you are the driver and the lumper. As far as they are concerned the "CDL" stands for combination driver lumper.

And for Truckerocrazy, I do believe that Mclain and MBM are very simular, especially since last I heard Mclain bought out MBM.

Where did you hear that crap??? And it's personnel. Drivers have been unloading trucks forever. Lumpers are fairly new and just a ripoff and extra layer of BS for the consumer to pay for. You work city delivery route like MBM , Ben E Keith, etc that is part of your job. Beer truck drivers often have to rotate the stock at the customers place. You want to sit on your duff then get a drop and hook gig. Want to be a trucker then do some work. Well a little at least.

I'd actually rather lump freight than drive 600 miles a day. I like the physical activity and driving is boring. MBM near.what.I live is constantly hiring. Need a year to get in though. No exceptions.

You act like you live under a rock or something. It's industry standard. With the exception of food service of course. That is why I said "a driver is not a lumper." Most OTR companies advertise they are no touch. I don't touch freight. That is my preference. Unless it's a pallet or two and they supply a pallet jack. Otherwise it is the shipper's or receiver's responsibility to handle their product. Also I don't have to get a drop and hook necessarily to not fingerprint freight. I worked local jobs before that were 99% no touch.

They constantly advertise here in So. Cal for drivers, that's why I looked here. I figured there was a problem since they advertise 65k your first year. I think they have a permanent ad here in craigslist.

DriverToBroker is right. Big Duker you'd better watch the move "Over The Top" Driver arrived for a pick up and sombody hooked up loaded trailer for him
I think its a pushing out method which evolves over time. They push some work out on the others to lower their costs like in supermarkets you need to walk and pick up goods by yourself. You spend much more time in a store then once when a salesman pass them over to you. Maybe you dont know but in a modern store you work like a salesman and sometimes in a warehouse like a lumper.

    Ahhhhh, food service!
If you'd have told me during my interview, "Here's what we do in a nut shell...we unload 14,000 to 16,000 pounds of groceries...200 to 300 pounds at a time...down a ramp, up some steps, down some steps, and into a cooler or pantry...at 2:00 in the morning", I'd have never taken the job.
