I learned to quit doing extra favors with my last company because the owner who I fought with alot about his crap still would'nt get my issues fixed at his shop.People like that deserves to lose money by having things fixed on the road.He paid poverty so I refused to fix anything unless he paid me what a mechanic charges.

We have a place that can be trouble, back uphill and the trailer sits at a fairly flat inclination, the tractor is much more on an incline.

Best trick I have found for that one is to set all of the brakes, make sure the air bags have let off enough to remove all wieight from the 5th wheel and then release the 5th wheel slide, it has worked in other situations, too.

Obviously, if you can't slide the 5th wheel for any reason, this will not work.

On my truck If backing against the pin doesn't release it, I drop the landing gear and dump the air bags. I then pull the handle as the air is venting. At some point it loosens up and I can pull the handle. Hasn't failed me yet.

We did have a driver who I swear had no driving exp.How do you damage the bolt on the fifth wheel unless he tried to kook up and went over the king pin and tried to move his trk forward and hit the bolt on the king pin he bent it all to heck.Hes done a few costly things which is why hes no longer there.

i always set the trailer. reverse the truck then park the brake.

a lot of times the kinpin is under pressure.from the forward motion. gets annoying to climb out and not be able to pull the handle. revers the truck just a smidge takes the pressure off the kingpin so the handle can be pulled. the forward motion might be a safety feature that none of us know about either. gaurantee that the lock stays locked when driving down the road.

once in a blue moon though. i do have to pull truck forward instead of back.
