I just got a call today that I passed everything and begin Phase one training next week. The pay is $16.70 per hr and the pay is based on your trip not actual driving time. Kind of like trucking pay. A former Greyhound driver said when you over night they always put you in a decent hotel and you get per diem. It all sounds good for an entry level driving job. I am stoked.

I am not all that sure that any amount is worth riding around with that many morons at once. I think I will stick with the highway with no one else in the truck to harrass me! LOL

I got cold feet and turned down the job. There are a lot of things they didn't mention about the job when I interviewed. I think driving a truck is better.

I was thinking of looking into a tour bus company job. Anyone know about these.

Those things are fun to drive. They hold the road really well.

I ran one on a snow covered road doing about 110kph, I was surprised that I didn't hit the ditch. It was pretty deserted and two lanes so I took them both.

Under the current contract, which expires on 1/31/2010, the starting pay would be 17.18/hr. The full union journeyman pay for a bus driver is 21.48/hr.

You would start getting 80% of that with the percentage going up 2% every 6 months. Starting 3/1/2009 you would be getting various percentages of 22.13/hr.

You may start as part time or full time depending on the station you run out of. I hope that helps.

I spoke with a Greyhound driver of 4 years experience. You will be home most nights. The most nights she personally was away from home was three, which she said was rare. It's usually a night or two. You will be put up in a nice hotel with a free meals. She said when she runs the St.Louis route, they put them up at the Millennium Hotel in St. Louis. It's a pretty nice place.
No calling Fleet Managers and having the money for the hotel taken out of your next weeks pay because it takes your company three weeks to "process" your reimbursement like in OTR driving. Not to mention the free meals. More time home and more money. It's a no brainer as far as I'm concerned.

I'm curious as to why you got cold feet?

I talked to a greyhound driver in Florida. He was very happy working for Greyhound. He said his route each day was Miami to Key West and back to Miami. Seemed pretty kosher to me. Wouldn't mind a job like that. Seems like it would be a cake walk compared to this. :yes2557:

This sounds like a decent option in the future, the starting pay would make me a very happy man. I'm startig school in a couple days, my previous best was 14.50 hr so 17 plus is looking real good. Being from California I would love to drive up an down the coast or even better a Vegas run would be nice.
