Well, I cannot stop thinking about getting back in the drivers seat although I was only in it for a short time. I did dedicated runs which were boring and consisted of illegally filing my log-books and running 16-17 hour days (not the right path for a newbie) which is why I got out.

I am thinking more along the lines of going long-haul. Out for 4-5 days and home weekends.

My question to those with the experience is

How do you prepare yourself for the trip and what nescessities are needed in order for these trips?

    Your question was "
How do you prepare yourself for the trip and what nescessities are needed in order for these trips?
Hmmmm, you really are a newbie huh? Wow! Ummm, I have some property in Arizona, absolutely beautiful, ocean front property! I think that was one of the dumbest questions I have heard in this forum from a grown "A" man! What make it worse is that you drove before. How bout Food, blankets, tools, first aid kit, Motor Carriers Road Atlas, Flashlight, if your nasty bring condoms, etc. If you got the money, buy a power inverter, microwave, a small fridge, and ac/dc TV. Make sure your truck has the nessesaties, flares, triangles, tire gauge, extra fuses, etc. Cmon dawg you know the deal! Now about that Arizona ocean front property!

I guess you could say for some, yes, it may have been a DUMB question but I guess I should have elaborated on that one a little further.

In prepeartion I meant psyching yourself up(eg. leaving your family etc.). I am not new to trucking but will be new to long-haul trips. Hence why I have asked the question. For one who has never been on a long trip in a "A" truck as you would call it, I was looking for professional advice, but, I know your kind as that word PROFESSIONAL is beginning to fade out of this industry.

If you cannot answer a thread without making comments, I suggest you leave the smart ### remarks over your CB as that is where most of the tough guys do it and now I see the same thing happening here.....

That is a perfectly logically question to ask, and it has been asked by many new drivers around here. That is the purpose of this forum, to ask questions and help each other out. Don't be so quick to jump down someone's throat, the next dumb question asked could be yours.:biggrin_25513:

Oh, that makes sooo much more sense! Why would you ask another man how to leave your family? I mean really. Everybody is different. You may be real close to your family and its hard to leave them. You on the other hand you ask another man, who may hate his family, How do you leave your family? You see what I am getting at? Thats your family, your situation, don't ask another man to show you how to care for your responsibilities. You mean to tell me, that you would follow someone advice you never met, when it comes to handling your family head responsibilities such as your bills, your wife and kids, etc? THATS YOUR FAMILY, YOUR LIFE, DON'T EVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU HOW TO HANDLE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY! By the way, You'll never get used to leaving your family if your close to them. its the hardest thing to do.

Logical from a womans point of view maybe. And since you are a wannabe trucker, you don't speak from ANY experience, (unless you are a truckers wife) I can see why you would say that. I noticed a lot of people that come on to the forum and ask, lazy, give me a free answer questions. Sometimes if people use common sense they can answer their own question.

Now as for people that want to talk about people being a man. I have seen kids put each other down and i have seen old people help people up. Be a trucker try respect.

Sorry everyone not trying to put anyone down. But i don't know many truckers that don't drive for bill, family,or etc.

I do know what you are talking about. Hubby worked local for years and then bought the truck, which now requires him to be out OTR again. I can say that it was very hard for him. He struggled for the first few months. Its still not that easy for him, or me for that matter, but he's fulfilling his dream. So I support him. And we know that its only for a short time, as he is usually home weekends.

He told me that the first 100 miles are the worst. I'm sure you know what he means.

I hope that you can work this out. It really does have to be something that you have to psyche yourself up for.
