I surf the net , take at least one walk a day, keep in touch with the family on the phone, read a bit and I have a few plastic models on board to occupy my down time.

I saw a post a few months back were someone had a five hundred dollar break down bike that he used on trails close to truck stops. the bike folded up.

Those are the folding bikes, they originated out of Australia some years ago and landed here in 2002 or so. They are nice if you travel a lot and need to get workouts in. I know who you are talking about. He goes by yourboyE on Youtube. He puts out some decent trucking videos.

    Exercise, read, internet etc...

I go through a lot of books so when in town I hit the used bookstore and not only can you get them cheaper used but they also let you trade them back in.

Like another poster mentioned, this is a really opportune time to learn and you can pretty much learn anything you want or go through any type of internet schooling you want. My wife received several Equine medical diplomas and what not just from doing it all online while we were over the road. I myself have been doing a lot of real estate and investment learning and studying. Eventually I'll probably take the state test for certification. A friend of mine did the same thing but for insurance sales. He just finished up and took his state certification and passed. He's now setting up shop and retiring from driving.

Whatever you choose to do during your down time try to make time for a little bit of exercise. It not only keeps you in physical shape but it really helps eliminate the stress of the road and keeps you in good mental shape. You have to burn up the energy somehow and if you don't exercise it will come out in the form of stress and anxiety. You've heard of "cabin fever" or "going stir crazy".... this is what happens to you when you have energy to burn and no way to burn it.

Investments is one of the best things anybody can learn. Had an old jewish gentleman tell me one time, if you learn nothing else in life, learn how money works. Learn all you can about the world of money. Unfortuately, I was well into my thirties when I got that valuable lesson. However, I did take that advice and have applied it. Now that you mentioned it, I think I will focus on that with online courses as a hobby. Dang good idea. Best of luck to you with that real estate and investments, pursue it, the market is on the rebound.
