How is more than 1 reset a week unsafe?
RockinChair Thanks this. -
Its going to take all drivers and companies to come together for one common purpose. I've been saying this for awhile. If 90% of trucks came off the road for two weeks our voices would start to be heard and after another week laws would start to change and when there is no food on the shelves i'd take another week off to drive home our points and the way we want it.

Nope, you're screwed. The FMCSA had a study done where they did a sleep study with a bunch of non-truck drivers and they believe it is the gospel. It's all to satisfy the anti-truck groups.RockinChair Thanks this. -

I am the Master of this Rig. I say when it stops, & when it goes. Dispatch has nothing to do with it. I use paper logs. I'm just a trucker, 0/0
When I'm an hour away, I will call. It is not a Dentist appointment.

I truly believe a human can not operate a class 8 truck more than 55 hours a week. You get stupid. It's just me. The 20 - 30 hours loading, unloading don't count. Jet fuel, coffee, only works for a time. So you do this for .33 a mile. Wow. I pee clean, I have all the endorsements. I talk to you for $6.00 a mile. A real delivery time is important. Were really sorry, but your freight was destroyed when Our truck crashed. He's fine, but fired. 90 day wonders. Takes years to develop the skills. I sleep, & I ride.

You're right that so many drivers complain and then don't take real action. Just complaining on this forum or at the truck stop isn't doing a #### thing.
These rules will effect all drivers, regardless of how they earn their living-not just the non-company guys. I manage a fleet, and we'll have to work with these rules in a big way. This impedes our flexibility in how we schedule a work week, as it adds an hour per trip to our longer runs (more than 8 hours driving each way), and now we have to be mindful of how to schedule within the constraints of the new 34 hour reset. This will have an impact on ALL drivers and their ability to earn a living. This will have an impact on ALL trucking companies and how we can service our customers.
Ultimately, this will create a need for even more drivers in an already thin market. Add to that the rules the feds are putting in place with CSA, sleep apnea, etc... There will be many drivers who get disqualified or simply give up. The hoops a driver has to jump through to get a medical certificate if they're deemed likely to have sleep apnea is a very frustrating thing. The cost for the sleep study alone can get up to $3000-4000, not including the cost of the CPAP machine or time needed to take off from work to complete it all. Add in the rising costs of insurance and much of it not being covered...
Fun times.
