It is to learn their process of doing the job. There is the computer work, paperwork, DVIR paperwork, store procedures, DC procedures and they have their own lingo to go on the paperwork so that I can be payed proper. This company cares about you as a driver. They want you to be comfortable in doing the job. Not like some other companies where they have you do paperwork, show a little of their process, throw a book at you that old info in it and say " your on your own." That is what the mentor is for, to guide me through the process while I actually do the job. He is along for the ride mostly.

Oh man, this is torture. 2 weeks and 2 days since my interview, they said 6 to 8 weeks although I don't understand why it would take that long unless they are trying to build a larger orientation class to get as many new drivers through as possible at one time. I know at the DC I applied to they said they were about 20 drivers short because of retirement and a couple transfers.. if anyone still has any doubt about how lucrative a job this is, 1 guy transferred to Florida when there was an opening, and for the year before he transferred he would fly up from Florida to the DC in Pennsylvania for his week and fly back home on his weekend. I spoke to another driver out of a Pennsylvania DC and he said there are two guys to fly up from South Carolina. I certainly won't complain about a four hour drive. I cannot wait to get that call for the second interview. I hope I get it, there should be no reason why I wouldn't, but the waiting is killing me. Thank you for the updates on the orientation. Nice to know what to expect and I'm sure it's totally stress free.

Well Congrats there NYVET! Yeah the location you applied to is short. My uncle drives out of there. They are going to go through all the applications they recieved. Once they have all the ones that qualify, they start the interview process. So think about this, my location went through 32 "qualified" drivers. Only the six of us are in class. Kinda gives prospective on it huh? Well you are going to be "conditionally offered" a position. Of course your going to accept it, they will drug test and medical you and back ground check. After all that comes back good, the last call you get will and should be a orientation date. They will give you time to plan your seperation with your current employer.

I am very happy to share my experiences with you and have good thoughts for you to be added to the company!

    Day 4

So today we had OBC (On Board Computer) training. Easy enough to learn. It is a upgrade from the OBC Knight had in their trucks. Also the E-log program and the Navigation program. Our location had the BBQ today. After that, the shop manager came in and talk about services, fueling, wash bay, etc. We went out to a truck and got a demonstration of the OBC and also info about the APU. After all that was done, got my ID badge. I also had to get some CBL's (Computer Based Learnig) modules done. They are required of the company to be done by all associates.

Well with tomorrow being Friday, I am not too sure of what we have left but whatever we have, it will be that and probably finish up my CBL's. I should also be meeting up with my mentor to get info on our leave out time and day next week which should be Monday. So next week I won't be posting anything much unless I get the time to do so on my phone. I can't say it enough. I am very glad to be where I am!

Day 5 last day of in class. Today was mostly rap up of some things that were not covered. We talked about getting good MPG's on the trucks. One of the last things that was covered was about our pay. Mileage of course but also activity. We also got a tour of our DC. If you have never seen the inside of a operation like this, I suggest you go on it to see how it works. I am now home for the weekend. Next week on Monday I will leave out with my mentor. Again this to learn the paperwork we have to do, procedures at stores and vendors we frequent.

This week has opened my eyes to what a company can and will do for their employees based on beliefs set forward by one man who started it all, Sam Walton.
