My FWS catches some nasty crap sometimes. Running my engine without it would be like consorting with a lot lizard bareback! You're looking for trouble.

    Get an AirDog Fuel Preporator.

Shade Tree- Fuel Line, good point. The only hose I ever had success with is made by Nautical Rubber. I put on my trucks. It is 3 walled, non-colapsable fire retart, non chafeing. Cost is about 4.65 per foot.It is also very flex for bends.

yeah man thanks for the feedback i saw these online last night at diesel filters direct .com and found a fuel water separator with housing and filter base that will flow 180gph and can pick from 2 10 and 30 mocron, even had a sensor u can wire into cab that will alert when water needs emptied, seems pretty slick im leaning towrds swapping out my primary for this, i really think this primary is hurting my fuel pressure, which hurts my power and mileage. im gonna call today to see about if it keeps prime on its own, what ball valve u use? What model of racor did u go with on ur 379? And did fittings come with?

Hauler- went with 900 series with NO less than 10 micron. This guy at Rose Marine in Gloucester told me anything less than 10 micron can actually remove some additive compounds!! The water sensor is great and totally trusting. Does no come with any fittings. I used 3 barbed brass "push ons". This is the only Coast Guard approved way. The only way to get off is cut. Once on it is there, so use a little more. It will keep it prime all the time, but I always top off before putting back cover. I use bronze ball valve you can get at plumbing shop. At some point you will need it and have it. C.G. will not accept hose or bandit clamps on any fuel system. The hose I described; you will never have a problem. 3 walled none colap, and never have chaffing problem no matter how bad you vibrate. Any plumbing supply will have all you need. Just don't use any alum. parts. Also, filter supply should have everything. Let me know how you make out. Mike-Z

I had the standard 90gph head then upgraded to the 120gph head with the cat filter. Never was happy with the upgrade. So a few months ago went to this Racor head its a 250gph head with 1.25 inch center threads. The filter is Racor S3238 10 micron 150GPH. Very happy with this set up. The sender coming out of the top is fuel temp, the other sender is fuel filter restriction. This is on a 379 with 6NZ. I been have replacing the filter at 25000 miles, just because it has been convenient to do so. I need to run it until the restriction get's up there and see how many miles it will go. When I changed the filter it was only pulling 6 inches of vac. The filter is expensive, close to $50 The racor number for the complete unit is 3150R. The 10 micron filter is S3238, the 30 micron filter is S3238P. If I went to a S3207T filter, then it would be 250gph filter, The 3207 filter is just a longer filter.

Are you using the Caterpillar high efficiency water/fuel separator primary filter? The part number is 256-8753. This filter has a much higher GPH rating
