In the words of Billy Crystal on Saturday Night Live:
    Don't be a smuck
    It's not how you feel
    It's how you look
    And darling
    You look marvelous!

Honestly, if the 379 has been selling so great for so many years, why change it? It's still in high demand. Sure it's a "classic" or "antique" looking truck, but who cares? You have many other options for "modern" trucks. A 379 is for someone who wants that classic look with modern technology. For instance, the 359 was awesome, then I'm sure people wanted more updated features in the 80's. so they kept the hood, and changed the interior and a few small things to the exterior when they brought out the 379. You could still get the truck that (most) everyone loved, but with updated features.

Then, in 2008, they released the 389. Looks similar to the 379exhd, but with subtle changes. The beautiful headlights, more rounded grille, and an updated interior (that was also offered on the last of the exhd's in 2007, such as mine).

So for the aero fan boys, they have something to like with the 587's, 386's and new 579's, but for the Peterbilt enthusiast who still wants a classic hot rod look of a 379, they have the 389.

Supply and demand is one reason I believe the long hood Pete's will be around for a long time, people buy them, I for one will eventually be one of those people.

Im just teasing, I kinda get them, I like looking down the hood as I drive but they are not to my taste, too small inside, too noisey , hate the styling, steering is terrible, ride is not good and my pet hates; the clutch pedal, seats and the doors. Maybe I just expected too much! A western star drives nicer but is ugly as hell, I also think a kw drives nicer except the steering and doors and seats are just as bad and the gearshift isn't as good cos the stick is straighter and flops about even more, can't describe what I prefer about it- I just do
