    Hello ;
Have been away from trucking for 20 plus years, should had never left it.
However one of the last things I did and loved the most was tanker, hauling fuel.
Now after all these years find myself coming back to trucking at the age of 58 soon 59 years of age.
I do not want too do the van or refer thing, just love that tank too much.

I realy need some help from people who know and has drove now for years and that would be you guys & lady's.
Have been looking into prime Inc. and there tanker division. Finding good info on there schools & training.
Training has come along way sence I had my class A. Get good miles before your test out, even if you went some were else, you still have the miles to start with and all done one- on-one an get O.J.T...

The recruiter at prime, told me that they could not let me get in the tanker division because I have been away from trucking 20 plus years ??, that I would have too wait a year, gain experience running vans or refer units then transfer to tanker.
Now too me !, that makes no sence ??.. Now there is a man getting ready to leave for prime training and he also has been out of trucking for 20 plus years and now going back and has never done tanker before and does not want vans or reefer's, who ever is his recruiter seems not too have issue going too that division ???, that's just Backwards.
So should I ask for a new recruiter !!! ANY IDEA'S....
Or should I go too Schneider ??..
Hear they now do in house training like prime an others, and hear they are a great company, not family owned any more an sure some things will not be the same there but still hear good things.
Any info on them or there school would be great or any thing.
Need too get this off the ground this not working crap killing me..

Thanks A lot too All Stay Safe..

I am almost positive you will have to take a refresher course but you would have to call the recruiters. Or you could ask a poster on here named Twicebit, he has been talking to the recruiters and could probably explain it better than I could. I love driving for Schneider by the way.

That PRIME recruiter has to be lying because we read all the time of newbies getting on tanks at PRIME . They probably just don't have any openings for tank drivers right now .
I wouldn't pay for a refresher training or go to any company training . You'd be better off going to a private school if you have to and getting your CDL on your own . The year employment obligation at carriers very rarely works out .
You'd really be better off pulling a van for a year then going to a tank company . Averitt has paid refresher training but I think you've been out to long to qualify for refresher anywhere .
If you're determined to start on tanker check with plants like Tyson and see who hauls the chicken fat . Griffith industries is a large rendering company that hires drivers for tanks .

I agree with RickG. Go the school route.

I was sort of in the same situation as you. Returned to trucking after 25 years in another career (I drove flatbed for a few years when I was younger) and retiring. I mulled it over for more than a year and did plenty of research. With all of the changes that have taken place throughout the years, especially since 9-11, I decide to go to school to make sure I am up on all of the laws and regulations but also to make certain I am safe and everyone around me is safe. It was the best decision I could have made. Sure, I could have taken a refresher course or simply went and obtained my license but I was aiming high.

Had no desire to drive van, reefer or flat. I wanted tanker. Went into tanker right out of school and never looked back. Hauling fuel and nothing else and loving every minute of it.

I made sure I had all my ducks in a row, license is spotless, background is squeaky clean and I obtained my Hazmat, TWIC, tanker, doubles-triples and a printout of my DMV and criminal background search to provide prospective employers. I applied to (literally) nearly 100 companies. I called. I called again. I sent emails and followed those up with phone calls. Basically, I made a pain of myself until I found someone who would take a chance on me. Even offered to work for free for a week to prove myself to some of these companies. If you sell yourself right and have a good background, work history and driving record there is no reason you can't have whatever you want in the industry.

Fwiw, my son-in-law looked at Prime and buggered off after finding one of their requirements was that he must provide his past incomes in the form of W-2s IN ADDITION to other types of proof of employment. I told him the heck with that as it's no one's business except yours what you earned anywhere else. They may have a great training program etc., but any company that demands such private information up front is bound to infringe on other areas of yours in the future. Some are OK with such actions, I am not. My son-in-law found another job and he's quite happy and he didn't have to provide intimate details of his earnings.

The best of luck to you. Keep us informed.
