Why do we let them get away with it? And why doesn't the government protect drivers

The worst truckers make considerably less than $.35 cpm . CDL mill , orientation , 4 to 6 weeks with a trainer and wait time between each of those makes first year income lower .airforcetoo Thanks this.

yeah my example was after the first year ... shouldve specified that; thanx for clarifying ...
my first year and a half with PAMela had me from $0.24 to $0.32 -
... not to mention the $0.175 I made while teaming
-
That had to be absolute worst case.
I will do 2400 miles with fueling, loading, and inspections in 40 hours time. I'm only away from the house for three nights in a week. I'm also at .40 cpm and 49k last year. I've had three months where I only worked three weeks.
I'm not OTR (obviously), but if I was OTR with my company, I would be making much more. But even at my current income, my family lives comfortably.

For dry van average gross per mile last week was over 2 $ per mile. With cost around 1.10 and drivers pay like you said 35 cpm your employer cleared 65 c every mile you ran. The truth is company drivers with good record and work history could make 60 and more cpm with quite a chunk left over for the boss, but it is not gonna happen. Too many people are satisfied with " living comfortably'. Not realizing one serious illness or mishap will bring them to the poorhouse

yeah thats why I averaged 50 mph ... still it's pretty good huh??

I guess you're right, like for a bad company or lazy driver.

Mind you that was just an example. I have a friend who works for FedEx and has a dedicated run, five days a week & 3000 miles, off Sundays and Mondays. He has got it made. But usually when you have a job that's home everyday, 40 hrs a week there's already a set mileage or a dedicated run. Whats the case with you cowboy?

Also, I did all that to give the OP some food for thought ... Like the average American job makes 34k and by driving 1800 miles a week u can make close to that. And anyone who is in this industry knows we drive more miles than that a week
