What's the test like? I know, the best thing I can do is go to MVD and get the material and study, so that's exactly what I did. Is it a tough test? I've read the book a couple times. Is that enough?

Mrh2008, when I took the Hazmat test at the dmv 3 weeks ago yesterday, I studied just one thing: under the tab at the top of this page, click on "CDL Practice Tests." Then click on "HazMat Practice Tests" and then "Full 30 Question Test." Over 3 days I studied a total of about 12 hours, taking this one 30 question test over and over and over... and over... Each time you take it, it'll come up with different questions. The dmv test is multiple choice and you're allowed to miss 6 out of 30 and not fail. I ended up missing just 2, getting a 93.3%, so these practice tests work. Since you've already read the Haz chapter a couple of times, that is way more than I did, and now if you'll add in these practice tests, you oughta do just fine.

Took the practice test a few times until I got them all right then went down and took the test and missed two questions. 15 minutes later I had my hazmat on my license. 1 day later I forgot everything I've learned.

Don't think so! After you passed the test and got fingerprinted, then the TSA or FBI had to do a background check on you. Actually getting the endorsement on your license takes time...

Is that just a criminal record checking thing or do they actually interview your previous employers, friends, family, etc etc etc?

c64basic, its not interviewing people about you because I didn't have to give up names and phone numbers. Must be criminal records... Only stuff that the Feds or States/Municipalities would have on you.

Well, possibly back 21 years ago you were able to get that endorsement immediately, but not anymore...

This is the way I always prepare for the Hazmat test. I keep doing it until I get 100% over and over. It makes the actual test a breeze. There are several practice test sites on the web.
By doing it over and over, you memorize the correct response, and you retain the knowledge longer. I recommend this method for sure.

I think so . In KY you can't take the test until you have already passed the background check .
