Drivers are a dime a dozen. Good ones are 2 bits a piece.
There are good drivers and there are fast drivers. But there are very few good fast drivers.
Why are there so many cry babies out here? Can't you read?

Excellent post!
True, the "bottom feeder megas" (Swift, Conway, Werner, Gordon, Knight, C.R. England, etc.) are a good place to get driving experience. Do your time and move on.
Why any driver would continue working for these companies beyond a year or two (or who already has driving experience) is beyond me. -
RWDDFINCH--While I agree with almost all of what you are sayin--and Ive been out here a day or so meself--Im sorry if I have to question YOUR credibility--your S/N says you are from Florida--and since EVERYONE KNOWS there is NO FREIGHT in FLORIDA--I am going to have to take your post with a grain of salt--BECAUSE AGAIN--I have been TOLD many times by very well informed company drivers--that I could never make a living with a truck being from FLORIDA---especially being from LEESBURG--now if you were from Zellwood or even Eustis--that of course would be a different story!
SORRY Couldnt resist--yeah I know -

LOL you're right of course. Caught me. All I have to chose from are a bunch of $3/mile loads. There's even a rotten Orlando to Orlando run that only pays $7,600 for a 6 day run. Now if I were only from Eustis......Last edited: Jun 12, 2013

I got to agree. No matter what kind of driver he or she is one year is just too soon to be teaching someone how to drive a truck. -
Good topic, but most of those things on you list do not apply to me as I work around them. Just a few hours ago I was told my load wouldn't be ready for 10 hours. Most truckers would just sit in their seat and stare out window for those ten hours. They had a yard dog so I asked if I could just leave my trailer here and come back later. They said yes, so I left, went to Ruby Tuesday, the shopping center, got a shower at a Pilot, and found a nice quiet place to park and took a nap (all within a 2 mile radius). I am also getting detention pay for the wait. This is a small town too, but I make the most out of a bad situation.
Also, a lot of people who quit trucking probably grew up in cities where there were a lot of laid back jobs where you all you had to do was show up for work and collect a check. I grew up in a small town where we had really tough limited jobs and I would fall asleep on my kitchen floor before making it to the bedroom after a long 12 hour day. Then I moved to a big city where the job was clean and required no effort. So I am used to "hard work" and to be honest trucking has been my easiest job ever.
