    state of confusion
    0
I was in New Jersey this week and I was following a customer to his jobsite and I have never been in this place before. I have pretty much run surrounding states of Virginia. While following customer to jobsite we was in left lane going to make a left turn onto another route but when I looked in mirror I found someone I did not want to see. The trooper pulled me over and gave me a ticket for being in left lane. The customer tried to explain that we had to make left turn ahead and that I did not know where I was going but did not help. Should I pay the $140 ticket or pay for an attorney and try to fight it. I have not had a ticket in over 12 years. All help is greatly appreciated.

How long was you in the left lane?I think under the circumtances I would fight it.But it could be costly hiring an attorney. You'll need the customer for a witness. This cop sounds to me like another trucker hater.

Yeah, I'd fight this one, especially given the situation and the fact you've at least got someone to verify your story.

Fight it! Especially since you were going to make a left hand turn and the customer was guiding you. What a DB!

I received a speeding ticket in Missouri in a private vehicle this past Feb. I hired an attorney off of www.pulledover.com, it only cost me $115 dollars (plus the fine) but they had the ticket dropped to a non-moving parking ticket so it didn't go on my license.

I would at least check it out before I just paid the fine. A left lane violation looks bad on your driving record (even though it sounds like a bogus ticket to me)

You were lucky. They are not supposed to change CDL tickets whether in a personal vehicle or not.

Were there any signs posted up about "No Trucks Left Lane" or anything like that? If not, take it to court. Personally, I'd go back to the area in my personal car, take pictures of all of the signs in the area to take to court with you... this way you don't need to pay an attorney. Unless the Judge is a DB and trucker hater as well, you should be able to explain that you were in the left lane, legally, and about to make a left turn in less than 1 mile while following a customer to their location. Unless there were signs posting no trucks left lane, or no trucks on that route you were about to turn on to, there was no legal reason for you to receive that ticket.

On most highways, about a mile before the left exit there is a sign "End left lane truck restriction", or something like that. However if you were in the left lane before that sign, they got you. I've driven through New Jersey and they have signs posted for when you can and can not use the left lane. Rule of thumb, with 3 or more lanes, stay out of the left lane or left 2 lanes. And watch for signs in all states as each state is different. As an earlier post mentioned if you go back and take pictures or at least see what zone you were in, that should help you to decide what action to take.
