I think what he/she meant to say was "So far how is Swift to drive for as a company driver?"

Once you have a truck as O/O for Swift, what is their payment package? From my memory they are offering $0.90 / mile, but I'm not sure what else they are offering (such as fuel surcharge). IMHO this is far too little to be able to cover expenses even if you didn't have truck payments. Fuel would be about $0.50 to $0.65 per mile, then $0.13 per mile for maintenance, about $0.20-0.30 for depreciation (if you want to stay in business), and then other expenses .... well, it just seems that there isn't any way to make money. Maybe with a fuel surcharge you would end up making about the same as if you were a company driver.

It seems that the lease deals being offered by Swift are so expensive that it increases the difficulty of being successful.

Imo. Don't lease a truck. Buy one if that's what you want. And drive a couple years first and put some money in the bank. What's the rush to get a truck? There will always be trucks for sale. While you drive that company truck you can stop and look at trucks for sale when you have some time. Good luck.

At some point we have to be willing to take a chance, be willing to fail, and believe in our ability to overcome adversity.

Hey Sheriff, took the last 2 days to read through all your posts, pretty much the first thing I did after finding these forums. It's really great to see your perspective, since in my training school, all we have are text books and recruiters to tell us about things. Recruiters tell you all their success stories, about people making over 60K their first year, and how you should make 40K minimum, but I've come to think that may be unrealistic for the first year, lol.

Now, I feel stupid trying to give advice to you while being a student, but all through this post, all I keep thinking is, he's gotta get away from this company. One year of experience changes things drastically for your hiring potential in this industry, but you're almost at 6 months completed, which can get you into a lot more companies too.

Also, have you looked into other companies O/O programs? I don't know how much better it gets at other guys, but I've heard swifts is known to be bad. I'm hooked on your story now, so I wish you the best of luck. Not sure how long your PC screws you for, but I hope you're putting in other apps, there's other starter companies offering around 35 cpm much much faster than Swift.

Don't worry about giving me advice. Just about everyone on here has more experience then I do. Don't sell yourself short. What you did before you started this adventure might just make you the best qualified to give advice.

So here are a few things that really bug me about the truck driving industry.

Urine bottles thrown out along the roadway. I never noticed it until I started driving truck. If you pass by a place where you've seen trucks parked over night, do you notice the urine filled bottles? Come on folks, at the very least put them in a dumpster.

Stop urinating in parking lots, at fuel pumps, and behind the drive tires at rest areas. I've seen all of these and sometimes from my Mentor.

Shower, shower, shower. Truck drivers have a bad reputation partly because of the way many of us look/smell. Take 30 minutes out of your day, stop and shower at a TS or terminal. I know we all get in a hurry and there are some days when getting a shower is just really tough to do. Carry some baby wipes, take a bottle shower. Put on some clean clothes and look presentable. TIE YOUR SHOES.

Stop throwing cigarette butts on the ground, out the window. I've watched so many smokers, standing next to a butt can, throw their butts on the ground next to the butt can.

    Just a rant.
