Profits are exactly what im looking for. Are you 100% independent or lease on with someone. I looking into buying a truck and trailer and becoming completly independent. If i could get a truck with no money down, buy my trailer cash the rest of the money would be for those weeks where things didn't go as planned.

What you say is not a bad idea at least a leg up on many who try and borrow their way to riches with zero down on anything, but just not how I'd do it, not there there is any one sure fire way.. Some ways make it easier than others is all and everyone see's that differently.. I operate in 100% the exact same manner as an independent but I'm leased on under someone else's authority...Own truck & trailer outright, earned them the hard way, saved it up.. The catch to my lease operator status it's unusual being no-one fronts me fuel money, helps pay for any repairs or any of that. No cash advances, none of that... It's all on me. I pay for everything and secure my own loads 95% of the time. The other 5% of loads are offered up for me to bid on and get at my rate, not forced on me nor am I coerced to accept any of them, only take them when I get my rate... I'm the decider and dispatcher in chief. I get paid every Friday. You might liken that percentage off the top of the gross revenue as a "factoring fee". The value in that percentage is the access it gives me to freight I'd never, or any indy for that matter, have a shot at as a solo independant truck. Could I go out and get my own authority tomorrow and do just fine? Most certainly, no doubt in my mind. Have developed many excellent contacts out here. But until I see any value in it I'm staying put right where I'm at.

$1100-1200 weekly lease payments? Are you people serious? I would be nervous having to pay that on a monthly basis.

You will have to gross 6k a week to clear 1k to 1200 a week having a 1,000 a week plus fuel coming out of your settlement, I would have to see a settlement sheet to believe it. I can't imagine having a 4,000 a month truck payment, that's what it amounts too.

is my math right. Lets see

    truck payment a week $475.00
    catastrophic ins. Week $034.00
occupational & bob tail ins. Week $079.00
    full coverage ins. $060.00 = $648.00 a week
    times 4 weeks in a month + $2592.00 a month

where the fuel cost for that week. Maybe 2500miles run @ $4.00 gal.
Let say mpg is 8. To run 2500 miles 8/2500=312.5 gal of fuel @ $4.00=$1250.00
that month ran the same rout times 4 weeks=fuel cost of $5000.00

so for that week truck payment $2592.00 month
fuel cost at 2500wk x 4 for the month $5000.00
    ----------------
    $7592.00 a month

    fuel surge charge is lets say $.40cmp x 2500=$1000.00 x 4wk=$4000.00

so truck payment and fuel cost $7592.00
    fuel surge charge @.40cpm @ 10,000miles - $4000.00
    -----------
after fsc truck payment & fuel is $3592.00 a month.
Of corse .40 fsc is on high side right now.

How much do you brang home after you pay your taxes, ssi, fica.

    I hear anythang about highway taxes,tolls,premits,tag,obrs (black box),pre pass,fita tax & ect.

    Is this about right?

People will tell themselves anything to make these deals sound good or ok even. You can tell the people whos mind is already made up and they just want someone to tell them it's ok you will be ok , don't worry.

One person in this thread actually goes so far as to try and say that an O/O has more freedom than a Company driver?!! HAHAHA. Whatever you say big boy. Whatever makes you think it will all be ok.

There is no freedom once you sign the dotted line and you better be #### sure , and I mean #### sure you can run at least 2500 a week for 52 freakin weeks to maybe break even. How anyone knows that, not having worked for the company yet for a year before they sign up is absurd behavior.

There is no better freedom than being able to tell your boss to kiss your ### anytime you want to. Yea try that with the bank sometime.

This industry is filled to the gills with complete morons with no sense. It gets worse and worse each and every day and most huge companies know this so much that it is more profitable to become truck leasing companies with a little trucking on the side. Look for yourself and wake the hell up. Each and every one of them are LEasing companies first , trucking companies second. Hmm I wonder why that would be. I guess for the same reason people think they Bujilt Las Vegas because everyone is a winner.

I like the way you think sir. That's the problem with many people nowadays they are automatons who are incapable of thinking outside the box. These fleace deals are essentially modern day indentured servant agreements. In the 17th and 18th centuries you promised your lord a certain number of years of service if he paid your fare to the new world. Now your promise your "lord" 3 or 4 years of service for a used truck at the end of the term.
