Your pretty much screwed. No respectable trucking company will hire a driver if they have tested positive for THC. Almost all companies ask on their application "have you EVER tested positive for a controlled substance?" If you really want another trucking industry job you may want to look into grain hauling, garbage collection, little mom and pop outfits. That's ###### man, whoever put that ##### in your baked goods deserves an ##### whoopin!

I have weighed the pros and cons, I am not in a trucking school yet because I have to find funding, via W.I.A., Workforce Rehabilitation, or company sponsored. I Expect a lower wage from my seasoned compatriots. I know my wife will be handling 3 children alone while I am out there trying to get all the bills caught up. And I have even weighed and measured the results of a wife who feels too neglected and the dreadful should happen.
When you are in the possition I am in, trucking seems like a decent way to get caught up. Many people leave home for their wages. Soldiers, Alaskan Pipe-liners, Truckers, ect.. I figured the Job market seems doable for the situation I am in. If I play my cards right and do what comes natural with perfect safety training i figure i can do it . But how to get funding,.. that's my hurdle. -
Another factor to consider is how your absence will affect the children. Talking to veteran OTR truckers at bars, I see them drinking to forget a problem that's weighing heavy on their mind. After engaging them in conversation and they confide their problems with me, they tell me their teenage kids had gotten with the wrong crowd and are now involved with drugs. With teenage girls, she's selling her body to support her drug habit. Your absence as a father will have an adverse affect on the social growth of your children. This is another reason why OTR truckers leave and settle down to become local hourly paid drivers. They spend quality time to give moral support as responsible husbands and fathers. After talking to numerous depressed OTR drivers with the same problem, I conclude that OTR trucking is only good when the kids are 18 and decided to either go to college, or enlist in the military. If the kids are below the age of consent, your absence to give moral support and guidance as a father will cause them to seek the company of peers. If these peers offer the illusion of joy and entertainment through partying and hanging out to elude their duty to study hard at school, then these peers will steer them to a life of drugs and alcohol addiction.Bfennell Thanks this. -
Drug and Alcohol Addiction in minors is not a reflection of the parenting Measures, it is a reflection of Social measurements.
I Cite as example Ronald (last name will be withheld) My cousin. He was raised in a 2 parent household with strong religious backgrounds. By the time he was 16 he was smoking Cigarettes, at 17 Marijuana, and at 18 a Fall down Drunk. His later years would turn into a various up and downs ending in his Poverty stricken drug habits.
Parents have only the ability to love their children and teach them to the best of their abilities about the good and bod of this world. However, studies have shown children rebel against their parents as almost an instinctive nature. Ted Bundy was a 2 parent strong moral and christian backgrounds, He was an honor roll student with passing Law school grades. We all know what happened with ted bundy.
As myself as an example. I grew up in a household of alcohol and drugs, My mother did almost every type of illegal narcotic, and I saw what it did to her, and when I became of age; when asked by a peer to partake of their illegalities, in rebellion I said "hell no!" just say no was more then just a model to me because it coincided with my rebellion for my mother.
Now lets examine the Teenage students of current who have parents overseas fighting a war, or in Alaska working the pipeline. These children are not only good students but advocates in fields of charitable causes that actually help society as we know it. My own cousin Advocates for Trucker Charity at www.truckercharity.org Why does she advocate this particular charity? Because her father is a trucker.
Forgive the long post, but the actions of a single individual as a parent should be weighed and measured before placing the blame on oneself for the rebellious nature o Teens and the paths they cross. We can use many good people in example, River Phoenix, Chris Farley, John Belushi, and many more. Good hearted kind individuals who had addictions that led to their downfall. But it was not the parents fault, the decision relies only upon the individual.
If I approach this situation as thus, I will be better equipped to handle any dangers ahead. But I will be in my childrens lives until they make their-own decisions, Even if they do something I am not proud of later, I will be there. This is life. As Walter Floyd said about his Son Charles Arther (Pretty Boy) Floyd "he isn't a bad kid, he just has a taste for something more then pickin cotton" -
