Is it against the regs to run without the trailer doors latched/closed all the way? I'm supposed to grab a trailer that has one of the doors unlatched and chained semi-closed. The freight is loaded to far back preventing doors from closing all the way. The door is opened about 12 inches. I can't find anything in the book.

I would'nt chance it.Tell your company to either get it fixed now or find someone else to take it.DOT may question you, maybe even give you a few csa points. How secure is it chained?
-
I am quite sure that would get you a nice ticket. Probably something along the lines of un-secure load. Something could fall out, if it rains could get wet.Call somebody, if still at shipper, talk to them.
-
If the door is open 12" and it is a 53' trailer it is too long to move. Besides that you cant trust that those doors wont come open at any moment.
-
Get it fixed. If the door should swing open and hits another vehicle or pedestrian you will have issues.
-
All good reasons not to take this trailer. If your dispatcher gives you a hard time give him all these reasons and refuse to take it till it gets fixed.Shipper needs to remove some of the freight.

Thanks, I won't take the load unless I can get it fixed first. My gut was telling me not to run with it.
I had to get a fork lift to push the doors closed once all ready. I had to leave the load at our drop yard for the weekend and someone opened it looking for an empty, didn't have any seals. Now the doors won't close again and someone tossed a chain on it (according to dispatch). I haven't seen the chain job yet. Supposed to go grab it in the AM.pattyj Thanks this. -
392.9 Inspection of cargo, cargo securement devices and systems
(2) The commercial motor vehicle's tailgate, tailboard, doors, tarpaulins, spare tire and other equipment used in its operation, and the means of fastening the commercial motor vehicle's cargo, are secured;TruckingTR1, Big Don, teqntexas and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thank you for finding that.CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
I got one for ya, about two weeks ago I pulled a roll door trailer back to the yard from a customers. A forklift driver came into it with his mast to high and knocked it off the track jamming it open. Now when I say jammed I mean I was hanging from the handle, all 195lbs of me, and it would not budge. Empty trailer, NON-MOVING door. Violation or not?
