Since I've been on here- I've wondered about this, and what different drivers defined as a steering wheel holder.

Is it someone that's only been local that has never been OTR? Or is it something different?

Someone who just does this as they could not find anything else to do for a job. They do not really want to drive but had no other choice.

To me it is someone that could care less about driving trk because companies pay insulting wages and drivers don't care what happens to the trk/trl just hurry up an get the day over with.Or it could be defined a driver jealous of someone elses success.Or some drivers do work harder then others,so the less ambitious ones are steering wheel holders to some.

From the beginning to the end of the day, we're all holding a steering wheel holder :biggrin_25523:

Some people are professional drivers and some aren't. Pretty much what it boils down to.

To my way of thinking, a steering wheel holder will have the credentials to drive a truck, and that is all he can { or will } can do. They may not have common sense, will not be knowledgeable about mechanics, and trucking in general. Usually do not want to broaden their knowledge of trucking, other than just the minimal skills. He can drive a truck from point A to point B { maybe } , but cannot figure things out for himself.Has little pride in his job. Needs guidance from dispatcher, DM, or whomever. Holders often do not care about others, or learning more about their professions, just keeping a job delivering freight is their goal in life, and they struggle to do it at times. They look at driving as a job, not a way of life.Do not care what others think. All they are able to do is hold the steering wheel and guide the truck, needing help for anything but the routine driving.Likened to an apprentice.
Some holders go on to become TRUCKERS, or Master Craftsman.People who true professionals, and realize all the neccessary skills needed besides just holding a steering wheel. Able to get the job done, correctly, safely and without someone looking over their shoulder.Takes PRIDE in getting the job done safely.

A steering wheel holder is one that cares nothing about the image portrayed by his or her actions. Carelessness in maintaining lane control, indifference when parking behind the fuel islands for the purpose of saving a few minutes at the expense of others, pajama-wearing non-showering shlubs.

    For openers.
