another possibility is the cooler nozzles were not removed and were damaged during liner installation.

Horrible thought but maybe they were removed and then left in the tech,s overall pocket :biggrin_25513:

Those pistons look very new. I have been burnt by pistons before made by interstate mcbee. I did a 60 series detroit ddecIV and in 50,000 miles three of the pistons scored up liners. I had all new piston oilers all the bearings looked great no damage to nothing else just liners and pistons. I'm not sure but I wonder if it's the meterial there made from caused them to swell. Needless to say put factory pistons and liners and no more problem. I will never use aftermarket ever. It made me look bad like I did something wrong. Put it back with same oil pump and oilers and it's got about 600,000 on it now and no problems. I'm not sayin it's your problem just tellin a story that's all.

Hi guys sorry for the delay, I was told excessive heat ruined these pistons, There was only 36,xxx miles on the inframe. This next go-round is being done with cat parts. The first 400,xxx went fine and nothing was changes except the aftermarket pistons. I thought it looked like an oiling problem but im not an engine builder. we will see if it holds together this time with oe parts .Hopefully it will be done this week, Thanks for asking ill post results when we get a few miles on her...

Excessive heat will have the underside of the piston discolored. Remove the rod and wrist pin to confirm this. If no extra fuel was introduced to the engine through either ECM tuning or a larger injector to create the extra heat, than you would have to look at a lack of air from the turbos creating the problem.

If there is no signs of excessive heat on the undersides of the piston then I would think the problem was the aftermarket pistons.

You need to determine what caused the issue before putting the engine back together, otherwise you may be doing this again in the future

I was told that the underside of the piston was not black or blue I will grab a piston when we pick up the truck. Gearhead yes it has been tuned with a pdi stage 1 and also has the fuel temp wire on it. This tune was installed long before the inframe and hasn't been an issue. mahle sp? were the pistons used in the rebuild the first time. Thanks again for the help Trevor .....
The reason I didn't mention the tuning is I didn't want people to think I was pointing a finger at pdi this isn't my intent.... thanks again

No I understand it is not the tuning. I believe it is the pistons being aftermarket but I would investigate other things just as haney said.

It 's a little late now, but do most engine builders take the time to check the piston to wall clearance on the packs or do they just put them together? And out of curiosity what is the clearance on a c15 acert now im curious? Thanks Trevor

You should always run a Bore Micrometer down the Liner after its been installed with the seals to ensure no deformation of the bore is evident for reasons such as O rings rolled etc.
Set the Mic to 0 at the top of the bore and chase it all the way to the bottom and at 90deg intervals.

    HISPEED428 Thanks this.
