Have to agree with the above - in over 18 years of being in the trucking racket and having owned more than 2 dozen trucks over the years I can honestly say I have NEVER, NOT 1 TIME MET OR TALKED TO A SINGLE DRIVER WHO ENDED UP ACTUALLY OWNING THE TRUCK HE LEASE PURCHASED. it just doesn't happen!

Second thought... QUOTE: "JCT doesn't hire 'newbies" -

Sorry bro but 1 year (or even 2!) in fact IS a 'newbie' for that matter!!

    Just my humble opinion...

I just did the math on most JCT leases based on a new truck. three years comes up to $117,000 total plus the one dollar at the end. Fuel costs you will have no matter who you drive for. My Nephew just got a new freightliner from a dealer and his loan amount was $118,000 plus what ever interest he is charged. From what I read and was told by JCT drivers the plates and permits are paid by the company. So JCT lease is not really a bad deal. Only thing is from what I am told is they are not really set up for teams if a team is looking to work for them.

I just got confirmed to attend orientation with only 8 months experience. Since I'm reading this thread you can tell I'm giving it quite a lot of thought before I jump in.

Some poster was mentioning QC audits.... I really don't want to run with a company that will press me to run outside the HOS. If only because I'd get very very tired. At 90 cents + .48 FCS (so effectively about 75 cents per mile after I buy fuel) , I guess you'd have to run a lot of miles to pay your fixed costs.

Prime looks more interesting, but I don't know if they're actually going to hire me. Have a few more paperwork items to submit to them. My intuition says to be wary of the company that calls you back the soonest. What I like most about Prime is they don't wave that "own the truck" offer at you. They're honest enough to admit that realistically, you will never own it.

I think you just figured it out late and didn't listen to those who told you not to do it but you did it because it sounded like a good deal right? Lol

JCT runs Qc elogs and is very much by the books. I have witnessed between 5-15 successful 1.00$ playoffs a year in each of the 6 years I have been here. And with their new lease payment plan of $120.00 pus .18-.21 cpm I expect too see more people do well and be able to afford even more time off with their families while working to having their slice of the pie.

Iowa 80 truck show is this week. Anybody near Walcott Ia swing by and say hello. I have a loaner truck (cascadia) and my stainless show trailer entered. Unfortunately my Coronado show class truck was clipped Monday!!!! Nonetheless swing by and visit, be safe out there.

JCT has like what is it? 800 drivers? 4 year leases? If the success rate were 100%, there would be 200 successful payoffs every year. So if there's only 15 per year, that means I have about a 7-8% chance of achieving ownership.

Just because I only personally know of 5-15 does not mean others I don't personally know have been successful as well. That being said, success rate for any new business is low as it is with becoming an owner operator.
