I was wondering if anyone knows of a secure place to park a loaded flatbed in the Ankeny/Des Moines, IA area? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm brand new to trucking. I'm heading to Roehl's training program in July, and I'm trying to decide between dry van and flatbed. Flatbed pays more, but the big question is where do I park it when I come home?

Yes, that IS the ? Where to park. These are your options: street, abandoned k-marts, truck stops, storage places, truck related businesses that might rent you space when home, dirt fields etc.

Roehl will probably be able to give you a list of places they APPROVE for you to leave your truck at. To be honest, if it is just a weekend, I'd just grab a spot at the Flying J on the east side of Des Moines and call it good. Some people rent out spaces, like me, at local business' for parking. I pay $75 a month for a spot at a somewhat secure place, but I am on their insurance binder as a renter so if something happens or goes missing, i'm covered.

Instead of going with ROeh, go with TMC. Then you can just park at the terminal whenever. You can go home while your truck is being maintained to.

TMC requires you to already have a CDL before beginning the training program, and I don't have one yet. Otherwise, yeah, that would be a good option.

Not knocking your decision but if a better fit for you would be TMC go get your cdl on your own. It's not hard at all to do.

if the op does this route make sure u follow tmc's guidlines as to what they require for school and hours otherwise they may say nope ur not qualified enough.

i went through a third party tester with a friends truck no school aced the test first time but it took me 2 years and a move to find a job with a local company

Let me ask this: Have you looked at alternatives as in private schools for truck driver training or do you have your heart set on Roehl??

This isn't a question about which company or school.

The OP clearly asked where to park a truck.

    Well said.
For a weekend etc, park at a truck stop. Doubt you'd be off longer than a couple of days while you are starting out.
