Headed to Portland, OR then on to Oakland, CA. then... home?

Had surprising difficulty explaining to my FM why I would not commit to the 16-hour timeframe given for the 630 mile dispatch. 55mph states, with about 30 cumulative miles of 6% incline -- sorry, but I'm not agreeing to average 57+ mph under those conditions. Not when one speeding ticket might mean working for Swift.

I'm going to join this thread. Just started with Conway 2 weeks ago. Not bad for the first week, but there were a couple of shippers that sucked. Just typical trucking. I had bad luck because tooth trouble started yesterday so I'm here in Altoona, IA recovering from a double tooth extraction. Not pleasant, but good pain meds. I've enjoyed reading this thread to get an idea of what some of you go through. I read this thread for months before deciding to take the plunge and come on over. It's nice to be actually experiencing this instead of reading about it.

One thing I will say, this is real trucking. At werner the loads were mostly at big distribution centers, but here I've already gone to some tight and difficult places. It opened my eyes and showed me that I still have a lot to learn, but I'm hanging in there.

Another thing I love is the fact that Conway is right up to the minute on pay. That amazed me. Even before I've transfloed, I can see how many miles I've gone and how much I've earned right up to the minute...even in the middle of a trip. I also love the straight forward nature of getting paid per mile instead of having safety bonuses and per diem making my paycheck a confusing mess of numbers that didn't always seem to add up.

The only thing that disappointed me was that none of my twelve volts connectors work and I can't find the fuse because it's not marked. It's a pain to try and plug in my gps to my inverter... but at least I've got an inverter, and no refrigerator. The other thing I'm worried about is idling in the winter to keep the batteries charged, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Later and here's to everybody getting good miles.

Whenever you go through Joplin. Let the shop know about plug ins not working, and any other issues.
They will fix any issues you have.
    I keep s running list.
Dot items they'll fix no question on the road. Just call road service.
Your bunk heater will run better part of 6-8hhours on full battery charge as long as you don't have anything running them down at same time.

Don't know how tall you are or what kind of truck you have but the kool-atron fridge works awesome. My husband and I have one, got it at TA for about 200 very well worth the money. I have to make sure I keep the temp down because it will freeze my meat or anything close to it. It's a dorm size fridge that comes with both 12vlt plug and a cord to plug into a regular wall. If you have a Prostar it doesn't fit where a normal fridge comes, I keep it at the end of the bed, I'm only 5'2 so my feet doesn't come close to touching it. Also during winter again not knowing what type of truck you have, we never have problems keep batteries charged. Both my husband and I sleep with CPAP machines plugged in to the inventer plus have 2 laptops going, and they stay pretty strong. Good luck with the company, my husband wouldn't go anywhere else even during slow times :biggrin_25514:

Does that fridge cycle on and off like a normal house hold fridge does? Or does it run constantly?

Anybody been reading Bert Johnson's VP HR posts on Crocodile's forum or Con-way Truckload website?
He went out and rode for a week, as well as a couple fleet managers and at least one ops senior managers.
