I'm 80 miles from home. I'm sitting waiting to load and I think there are at least 3 trucks in front of me. I'm watching my clock tick down to the point where even if I loaded now, only an undocumented Hyperdrive option would get me home legally.

It's been a pretty good week. Why does it have to end this way?!?!

Happened to me onetime with Werner. I was sitting 8 miles from home customer was closed, couldn't get ahold of wkend dispatch, and had very little hours left. After sitting for 4 hours I went to bed out of hours with my temper going thru the roof. 22:00 hours my qualcom went off saying the load was cancelled, at midnight I finally got authorization to go home on personal driving time. I got home to an empty house, all my friends had left already' I ended up drinking a few to take care of my sorrows.:biggrin_25511:

Yeah but they will not allow us to drive on personal time under any circumstances, so when that happens we're stuck. And it's happened to me several times on my way home, the customer would run me out of hours and I'd have to sit for my break less than 20 miles from home.

Maybe get a relative to pick you up and just make it look like somebody is in the sleeper berth?

If the truck isn't parked in a legal truck parking spot, I'm personally liable for all damages if I leave it somewhere. Not worth the risk.

True, but if you get pulled over (which is more common in Texas where I live, because they have shut down most weigh stations and use mobile scales), you're still driving illegally regardless of what the safety dept thinks.

And if you get caught driving 3 hours out of your HOS, they'll destroy your career.

To each their own, but I always wait it out. And if I end up having to do that I make them give me an extra day off :)

Guess if you're new and think you can't get something better.... you sit. All the what "if's" you can think of are just that, what "if's".

I'm on e-logs. I've had to "take one for the team" from time to time. They didn't shoot me, or fire me,or claim my first born male child. Personally I'd NEVER sit close to home.
