I always liked to jog, but on bad weather days or times I was parked in a bad area, I kept a folding stepstool in my truck I could do some step-aerobics on. I also bought a folding bike for a bit of variety. Weightlifting bores me, but it's a good idea to do it if you enjoy it. Just keep in mind you don't want to bring a lot of dumbbells with you in the truck- it can make it harder to scale out with a heavy load. Instead, bring one set of adjustable weights.

Being healthy on the road is possible, if you have the motivation. Most truckers make excuses, but those of us who truly wanted to be fit always managed to find a way. With time, you'll figure out what works for you and develop your own routine.

Well said. It can be done for me to lose 70 lbs all it took was a good pair of running shoes and off I went. there are 24 hrs in a day all you need is 20 to 30 minutes that leaves you 23 1/2 hours to do everything else. I like the step stool that's a good idea for the bad weather days.

My truck has seat belts in the bunk, you can buy a spare latch from the dealer and put a d-ring on it. then I attach a resistance belt to it and I can work out my arms while driving.

Another thing I do if I don't have time to stop is pedal. people look at you weird but who cares, theirs no resistance unless you wear ankle weights but it will get your heart rate up.

And while I have never done this, I have seen a guy put on a harness and pull his rig across the parking lot. that gets people talking.

When I was trucking I did YRG (Yoga For Regular Guys) which is now called DDPYoga. The wrestler Diamond Dallas Page created a low impact workout routine that keeps your body in the fat burning zone always. I lost a little over 160 lbs in a year on it and most of the moves you can do inside your sleeper. You don't need any equipment to do it. The diet plan isn't like one of those calorie counting ones. You pretty much just stay away from diary and gluten, and don't eat any processed foods. If it wasn't a food in your great grandmother's day than you don't need to be eating it.

I do isometric/isotonic exercises with a Bullworker Steelbow and an IsoBow. They're very portable and you can build as much muscle as you want. For cardio I just walk around and/or do jumprope.

The IsoBow in particular is the best, most portable (and inexpensive) piece of exercise equipment I've ever owned. You can easily feel "the burn" within a couple of minutes if you want to. It's only $10 on Amazon.

(Edited to add: While driving I also sometimes use a grip exerciser or one of those gel squeeze balls, which is good exercise and good stress relief.)

We are truckers and workout everyday on the road with dumbbells, resistant bands, ankle weights and a kettle bell. We are in the best shape of our lives while being on the road
