scarecrow, i plan to apply with KLLM when i get closer to being out of school. (weeks) Did they pay you for the orientation period and were you put up in a decent motel. I realize the pay ain't that great the first 6 wks, but you get the miles after that. Am I right in this assumption. What tidbits of knowledge can you pass along that will help me have a career with KLLM (not a 6 month gig). appreciated it.

What is it like working with a refrigerated unit? How does being paid a percentage work? And what is the difference between hhg and practical miles?

Can anyone tell me what the KLLM policy is for taking the truck home or parking it near home during home time?

If you live more than 100 miles from the terminal, you can take it home if you have an approved place to park it.

Yes you will be paid for your orientation, and the motel is a Best Western just up the road (if you do orientation in Dallas, aka Seagoville)

Working with a reefer means more responsibilities and longer dock times.

Being paid percentage means you are paid a set percentage of what the truck will gross for the load regardless of how many miles you drive.

HHG miles are shorter than Practical Miles. PM usually will be within a few miles of what is actually driven.

KLLM still pays HHG miles. They won't do Practical Miles cause their Customers won't agree to it in their contracts.

Right now miles are low cause of the new year but not for me. I've been averaging 3,000 miles a week cause I guess I've been at the right place at the right time.

KLLM fits me. I have gone and worked for others but came back to KLLM last March 21st. I just got my W-2 and my gross for 9 months and 1 week was over $42,000 which includes 2 quarterly mileage bonuses. During that time I was home for time-off totaling 4.5 weeks. So in 7 months and 3 weeks, I made the above gross.

I have over 5 yrs driving experience and still learn something new everyday.

How good is KLLM about getting a driver home? If a driver needed a specific weekend off is KLLM good about getting the driver home at that desired time?
