I said, waste vegtible oil, not bio diesel. Waste oil is NOT HAZMAT since the flash point it to high. Its not out of the fryer at McDonalds, but it is just oil that has been cleaned. Not turned into bio, just cleaned.

Thats why I said BIO. I hauled waste oil from a collection point to a plant that cleaned it. I had to go get a load of diesel to wet the trailer after bringing dirty oil to the cleaning plant. I did not need placards going to the plant with dirty oil but I do need bio diesel placards after it was cleaned.

I just thought I would let you know what DOT thinks about the two different products.

One thing I do know is that if it is in fact considered haz-mat and you do not have a haz-mat CDL, authority, placards, and insurance, you will probably go to prison for years. You should get something in writing from DOT saying that you do not need haz-mat.

Here is the deal if you haul anything with your own truck or others you must have a Bill Of lading for all your freight on board & if you get pulled over for any reason & The inspector finds out that your bill of lading says that you are hauling 10,000 Pounds but you are weighing 16,000 pounds you will have a lot of Explaining to Do Lucy
Besides All freight on your truck must be covered by the insurance on that truck that means that the policy will only cover the company you are leased to Freight Not your Freight because it is not listed on the freight bill & if you put it on the bill of lading with out the company you are leased to Knowledge and try send your bills in after you deliver the load your company has the right to charge you for hauling that freight with their Authority and insurance will they do that? maybe maybe not

I've hauled a lot of things that weigh one thing on the Bol but are heavier or lighter when I scale out.

Yes I know what you mean under normal conditions where the scale master is not in the mood to check your truck they never bother anyone simply because the truck is not over the 80,000 Lb limit and everything appears to look good on the outside but if they were checking that day and they wanted to check trucks that kind of problem may start an argument that wasn't necessary if the driver was doing things by the book. But what happens if someone break in to the load and the driver have to report losses and so on.The driver can do a lot of things legal or not but if the Shoe hit the fan it would be embarrassing to try to explain don't you think?

I haul flatbed. Majority of our stuff isn't weighed, it's all guessing. I hauled a machine the other day, was supposed to weigh 35k lbs, scaled out at 55k gross, so really it only weighed 20k lbs. I've hauled lumber in the past, was supposed to weigh 40k, ended up weighing 46k. I was under gross so the scale master didn't bat an eye when checking my paperwork. They don't know how much our tare weight was to begin with, so technically they wouldn't know if the Bol weight was right or not

Were talking about 3 different products here.

Wast oil (dirty from resterant) NON HAZMAT
    Cleaned Waste Oil NON HAZMAT
Bio Diesel (a product made from waste oil) HAZMAT

Cleaned oil is different then bio diesel. You dropped off oil to a bio diesel plant. Bio diesel is made from waste oil, METHONAL, and lye. Once the chemical reaction takes place to make biodiesel, it has a lower flash point an thus is hazmat.

Now, cleaned waist oil is NOT hazmat. All that has been done to it is removal of the french fries, water and other contaminants. Clean waste oil still has a high flash point and thus is NOT hazmat. This is the "fuel" i will be useing since I;m having my truck converted. I'm not tranfering "bio diesel" and never said i was using "bio diesel".
