Both my sons are grown and in the Navy, as for my wife she understands the basic concept of having a roof over your head and eating.

Some people just are not cut out for it......there is nothing really wrong with that..
I have a Wife and a 6yr old at Home...Sux for them, esp my Daughter.

I love being by myself, and it's not like I have a lot of other options for work anyway.

An idea I got off here a while back helps a little if you have young kids. My wife got a large map of the US and posted it on the wall. Its the laminated kind. They use dry erase markers and map out where I've been and where I'm going to. It doesn't make up for me being gone but at least the kid learns about maps and geography, plus it helps him understand why I'm gone and where I am at. Also you have to make the most of your hometime and think of it as quality vs quantity.

I've got a girlfriend with a 4 year old daughter at home. I just make sure to call every day. I use Skype as well occasionally. For the daughter she is always really curious about where I am at and what it looks like there so I take a lot of pictures and also bought her a road map so she could trace where I'm at. That's become a nightly ritual now.
