This 30 min stuff is bull! I just started doing a local run for my company that I can do in about 8 to 10 hours and I don't want to ''rest'' in a truck I cant sleep good in a truck never have. So rather than going on home and resting on my couch or bed I've got to stop 80 miles from home for a brake that I don't want or need! But I do have paper logs still so I do what I have to do,but before this I had no need to mess with my book.
The new restart rule actually caused me to drive more instead of its intention

Just pray no idiot 4 wheeler runs into you that last 80 miles . You're the one that would be negligent .MoGooder and classic_150 Thank this.

For longer hauls I'm beginning to like the 30 min break. Before when I took a "leg shaker" at a rest stop I felt compelled to "take care of business" and crank the engine right away. Now if I find an interesting rest stop with a trail or a lake I can take a short hike or skip stones for a while. Stopping to take a shower or shop at Walmart becomes less of a guilty feeling in the middle of my day, since I'm mandated to take a break anyway.

I hear ya.But the law thinks they know best.Alright boys and girls time to take a brk.Wish they would just leave us alone and let us do our jobs.No rights,no freedom in trucking unless it goes thru the proper red tape.I respect their unreasonable laws as much as they respect the drivers.

Taking that break after 3 hours of driving can bite you in the butt. Any stop after that decreases driving time because the 8 hour clock never stops. In the truck it feels like bumping against the 14/70 all the time. Unnecessary added stress is the primary unintended consequence.NewNashGuy, CertifiedSweetie, CougFan and 2 others Thank this.

The new hrs of service didn't affect anything for me this week. I did run for 7.75 straight hrs one time without taking the 30 minute break. I mean I did stop a couple of times to take a leak. However, I guess if I would have run into a major traffic snafu I could of had a problem with the 30 minute rule. Yet, I arrived at the yard for a drop & hook and did my break there.

my laptop doesn't make me take an 8 when on duty. it only pops up on the driving line.
wondering why the qc pops up on the on duty line also. -
How does it decrease driving time? After three hours of driving you would only have 8 hours left on your 11 anyways. If you pass the 6 hrs of driving and on-duty, you're into your 14 hrs which continues to count down anyways at that point.
-
Simple . You can only drive 11 hours in 14 . If you have 3 or more hours on duty without the break the break reduces available driving time .
-
If you drive without stopping its no problem. Any on duty time or off duty break counts against the 8 though.
Here is a pic of my Qualcomm summary screen from this week
The problem is that 8 hour break line starts counting down as soon as you go back on duty and stops for nothing. The 805 hr drive line stops every time you log lines 1,2 or 4. I screwed up and fueled after taking the break, then took a couple of nature breaks later. I wound up with 45 minutes of drive time I couldn't use without a 30 minute break at the end of the day.Last edited: Jul 6, 2013
