It takes experience behind the wheel to say what I did? I'm not telling people how to drive. I told one guy he should be careful about company leasing, and another guy that he seemed like he had too much experience to be making so little money and still be at one of the worst starter companies I've heard of. Sorry I forget to kiss peoples butts when they say stupid $hi!.

    I'm the idiot..?

Mattbnr, I have been reading your posts about leasing a truck the last few weeks. I seem to recall you saying you have a fiance and few children to take care of. I think you have plenty of responsibilities already, without leasing a truck.
You state that you only take home about $500 a week. Well, if you lease a truck, you may take home zero, or you could have negative paychecks, where you owe money for the week.
Imo, finding a better company would be the best idea at this time.
I am not in the habit of telling others what to do. But I have seen many drivers start out owning /leasing with very little money and they are under tremendous stress without any additional reward.
The people commenting against leasing are for the most part trying to help others avoid a bad deal.

Imo. Leasing is usually the most expensive way to have a truck..

I was with Crete for several years. If someone really wants a new truck, you might check out their deal. You put down a few thousand $ and make payments. And you own the truck.

    Good luck.

yeah I've decided against the lease deal. I'm now focusing on another direction. Might get away from the box trailers and look toward a open trailer. Flatbed, oversized, heavy haul etc. pulling reefer isn't bad but it's making me fat. No exercise. Too much crap with reefers. Plus the other stuff looks fun.

That's the best idea yet! Get yourself some exp. on a skateboard. LeArn how to secure some of the myriad types of freight THEN consider going into OS/OD. High, wide, heavy and long is no joke and it demands much attention to detail at ALL times. It's what I do. I love it. Pays great too!

Any recommendation on what companies to look at? I know very very little about flatbed. I know ya gotta have a strap every 4 feet I think it is on certain types of loads and use chains on others. But other then that not much.

I work for Lone Star out of Ft. Worth, TX. I love it here, they keep me moving. I pulled an 11' wide the other day and later this week ill be taking a 12' wide up to Nebraska.

They treat me like a person, and if you'd like any more info just PM me. I'd be happy to help.

It's your attitude that we have a problem with! Who said anything about you being an idiot? I do not recall saying that. What I'm saying is for somebody that is a student sitting here telling people what to do when to do it and how to do it is complete bull! After a year of driving and being around this as long as I have I'm still learning and have a lot to learn but also when I see drivers post about wages and miles even though they may be low stop and think maybe they're in that sitution for a reason. I see a lot of drivers come in put in 6 months at a mega (because that's what the school tells them to do) and then think they can hire on with a good paying company right away. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. With the way insurance companies are running things now days most companies that pay a decent wage to drivers won't touch you without 2 years driving exp. Think about things like that. Most insurance companies won't touch drivers under 25 used to be 23. I have been around the block seen the industry change for the worse, see it keep getting worse. I've talked to the old timers out here that have got completely fed up with it and are getting out. Spent one day in a CDL mill and quit. During that day heard more ######## from classmates that had never even stepped foot in the cab of a truck than I care to talk about. Listened to a young lady (nice as could be no mind you) dog TMC, maaveric, AND BTC because they didn't have conestoga trailers and how she didn't want to throw lumber or steel tarps. Listened to another student complain about as a rookie having a horrible starting wage, and another moron complain about being out for more than 2 weeks with a trainer.

I see people my age and look at the generation before mine and my generation and just shake my head. Bunch of know it alls, that seem to want everything given to them, there is now working your way up, they want to start out right at the top, and that IS NOT how it works. I listen to people talk about leasing when they have been told from day ONE not to lease, listen to people like you criticize other drivers for the way they do things, listen to some driver whine cry piss and moan about not making any money but they'll sit around a truck stop and b.s. all night and the list just goes on and on. That is NOT how it used to be. And NOT how it should be. I still to this day will help any driver out any way I can. Need help hanging a mud lap, sliding a 5th wheel, changing a light, directions, spotting etc. I still believe in a brother hood although have come to realize there isn't much of one anymore out here on the road.

Before you go out criticizing other people for their choices get yourself some experience first. I do my best not to judge as I myself have made mistakes I admit it have nobody to blame but myself but I'm also on here to help people as well not tear them down. I have received a lot of help on here, met some very good people formed some good friendships cannot thank them enough for the help they have given me and that's what this forum is for. To connect with each other and help each other out not sit here and tear each other down.

When you pull an attitude of knowing it all telling people what they should do and how they should do it, it doesn't paint a very pretty picture especially when we read student under experience. For all you know and all I know the poster who you told was working for too cheap, and could find such another wonderful job could be setting himself up for something bigger and better down the line. Think about things like that. I would like to think he's sticking it out as long as he can in order to set himself/herself up for something better. So stop and think about things like that. If a person wants to lease after all the horror stories let them its their life not yours, all I can tell them is good luck, and I hope it works out for you. Sometimes it does though it usually doesn't. Good luck to you, hope everything goes well for you in school hope all your testing goes well, but change your attiuted. Keep it up and you're not going to get very far in trucking.

    tl;dr

Really sorry my 2 line flippant remark about low pay ruined YOUR thread... Making a joke about the poor ####### (no pun intended :p ) being high really oughta fall under that thick skinned problem. Thought that was a must for Super truckers like yourself. Again, it doesn't take any driving experience to inquire why one would settle for low pay, or to tell someone to be more cautious about starting their own business when they don't realize that that is exactly what they'd be doing. When I start telling guys they can grease their fifth wheel plate with baby oil, then you can jump on me.

BTW, good luck to you in the future OP. Sorry I jacked your thread by not being sensitive enough, lol.
