I know the recruiter will tell me all this but I like to have a general idea because I know those guys are busy.

They are processing all my info now so I should know something come next week.

They said Id be training for about 6 weeks. 3 on the yard, and then 3 with a trainer OTR. After that, I get my own truck. My question is, do I get to see my family any before I get my first dispatch? Or will my first dispatch lead me in a homeward direction? I have a wife and 2 kids and I am not picky about hometime (once every 2-3 weeks is fine) but we are talking 6 weeks being gone.

If Maverick is like other companies you have to stay out while in training and you go home after your first load.Maybe you an trainer can work something out so he gets a load going by your house and you can spend a few hrs with your family.

Im in school. We had a Maverick recruiter come in and I posed the very same question not more than a month ago and I was told dispatch first load after getting truck would be homeward bound to get you by the house for family and any tools bedding etc for the truck. Good luck.

Most companies will work with you on getting you home to get things you need once orientation is over. This may not be so easy when they are scheduling you with a trainer immediately after training. Either way, I would recommend avoiding it until after a decent rotation out on the road first. I know it may suck at the start, but you will thank yourself for it later. The sooner you are putting miles down, the better your first few checks will be. If you keep going back and forth early on, your first checks (in which your already going to be waiting on for a period of time) will be quite puny. Good luck on your endeavor.

Yes, you will get a load home bound as your first w/a. (Work assignment). If you live within 150 miles of your trainer, you can go home on weekends during your trainer's hometime for the 34 or a little more. I did it each weekend I was with Sarge.

It is actually a six week program. The first week does not count as it is basically a week long job interview. Then you are an employee and spend the next week learning securement. You then go out with the trainer. I just completed MIT and they are telling us to put together a 5 week course as they are having better success with the guys that stay with the trainer for five weeks vs three. The bottom line is that you have to be able to run the truck by yourself before you are sent back to NLR for final eval and then get your new truck.
If a trainer sends you back early, he is doing you a dis-service and should not be training. If you are really ready in 3 or 4 weeks then you can go, if you are not ready in five, as long as you are making progress, the trainer will keep you.
They try to put you with a trainer that is 150 miles form your home so that if you want to make arrangements on your own to go home you can. But you have to be back when the truck is scheduled to leave, or we are instructed to leave you and they will deal with it.
Sometimes the trainer may option to stop near your house so you can go home, and he will stay out for the weekend. He does not have to do that but some do. I personally would do that for my student if he is really trying hard ect.
When the trainer goes home, you will be put up in a hotel that has laundry facilities and is within walking distance of places to eat.
    Hop this helps your question.

Dang, they really sound like they care. Its foreign to me because the 2 companies I drove for (eventhough it was 10 years ago) didn't care about you at all. All they cared was that you made their paycheck larger.

I really REALLY hope I get on with Maverick. Ive had other offers already but I really want to see if I am accepted here before I even consider joining anyone else.
