I got a ticket for going through a red light in town. According to the information I have gathered, this is a 3 point violation. I received the ticket from the city police, and I was in a company tractor-trailer. Since I received the ticket from a city police officer, and not the state police, is this citation going to show up on my company's CSA score? What will my company say (major carrier) when I tell them I got the citation? I have only received two citations in the past 8 years (counting this citation), and I haven't received one in over 3 years. Basically what I'm wondering is if there is any advantage to receiving the citation from a city police officer rather than a state trooper or DOT officer... for purposes of my commercial driving record, and my company's CSA score. Thank you.

Was there a roadside inspection?

If you did not receive that paper saying "Vehicle Report Inspection", it will not count any points on your CSA card. If you received only the ticket and there was no roadside inspection, there are no points on your CSA.

Id take it to court, doesn't cost you anything and in if cop don't show up your off the hook. I would tell them that the light had just turned and was in a combination vehicle and if i was to apply the brakes as i needed my trailer would have been in the lane next to me so it was one decision or the other. Course you'd have to be able to talk the ears off a brass billy goat to be able to pull this story its a trait that few have thankfully im blessed with it.

A ticket for running a red light, this is a moving violation, if it was not, it would not carry a three points against your DMV. And don't think for a minute that it will not show up on your CSA, it is certainly going on your DMV and you can rest assured that it is going on your CSA. Even traffic warnings are showing up on drivers' CSA scores.

I got the same ticket last year. No CSA involved.Rocks, RickG and Harry Hickory Thank this. -
Under the FMCSA regs, it says its under the unsafe operation category of what they call BASICs. They look at it as running a stopsign or inattention. Ruling is under FMCSR 392 and 397. You can look it up online. Look it up. Its there. It happens. Just be glad there was no accident and no one got hurt is the light at the end of the tunnel. Be safe out there drivers.
