LOL. Now that's funny. -
I just finished school with Stevens and am out with my trainer. So far it's been a good place, lots of rules and paperwork, but they are a LARGE company, so things are what they are. No-one has force fed me anything, they talked briefly about leasing, but new drivers aren't eligible until certain milestone's are met, and even then, my trainer says they emailed him about it, and when he went through the main terminal, someone from the lease department bought him lunch and gave him a dog and pony show....he said no, and besides the random email or phonecall, no one has tried to ram a lease down his thoat and he has been with Stevens for 5 almost 6 years.
Stevens will treat you right as long as you play by their rules which aren't that hard to follow.
Sure I've met some "disgruntled" fellow employees, had a guy corner me in the yard during orientation and proceed to try and convince me to pack my bags and leave, but turns out he had alot of bad habits. Most everyone I meet at Stevens is professional and helpful as long as you are professional as well.
Good luck on whatever way you decide to go, it's crazy as heck out here....crazy.luv2drive365 Thanks this. -
There will always a few bad apples in every company. I choose not to listen to them and do my best to be a top driver (not a super trucker) I have never had problems with any Driver Manager. You will be great.

I got.a call from Stephens and they said 5 weeks with trainer which is ok then 5 weeks out with a student WHAT dont think so. The blind leading the blind ohh goodness
-
About half the fleet is lease, about half are company. I do not get treated any differently, I average 2800 - 3000 miles a week. Everyones experience is different, but for me it has been a good fit.
In the year I have been with Stevens I have had to touch freight three times, I have never unloaded a trailed and the worst was separating flavors of yogurt at one stop.
If you have specific questions feel free to pm me or you can always post them in the Stevens forum here on TTR and you will get answers from other drivers as well.
If you live in the Dallas Area, you can just leave a vehicle at the yard and park your truck there.Last edited: Jul 18, 2013

Why 3 weeks with a student am I like training them will that be run like a team.
Thank you for answering our questions -
It's the two heads are better than one theory. Rather than send someone out solo it allows a new driver to get out of the environment where you have a trainer looking over your shoulder bit there is someone there to help you out with the things you may not be sure of. Also there is the benefit that one student has had different experiences that the other and you can learn from each other. You can work on each others strengths and weaknesses.
Stevens will hold your hand every step of the way and no you will not be dispatched as a team, infact you will be on loads that will have you sitting a while since you are not yet being paid by the mile, you are not losing any money
You will have to park the truck no later than midnight Central time and cannot roll again until 7 am I believe but the truck has to be shut down for a minimum of 8 hrs every night.
Just another phase in the learning process. -
Well that dosent sound to bad.
Hope the student is ready for.me yell at them if they try to down shift on a hill lol
