Bleh. This company is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth. And I had such high hopes for this place. Somehow I found myself on a stupid backward schedule where I would try to get my D.O.T. during the daytime and drive during the wee hours of the morning to get to the customer on time. I'm on probably my fourth straight day of doing this and it's killing my body. And everytime I empty out and select "no" for going on the board so I can finally get some sleep, they still put me on anyway. And they always act like they know how my logs go because they seem to give me loads that fall within my 10 hr. I have to keep explaining to them why I can't do such and such a load. A couple times they've given me a load with a questionable dispatch speed. I'm looking for an exit right about now, but I have to wait for the right moment.

Sounds like you're just having a bad week. That can happen, it happened to me a bunch of times at the last place I worked. I would start out from home in the morning, and after delivering the load the next day, would get to sit and then pick something up that evening and run. Your body will get used to it eventually, but before that happens odds are the cycle will be broken and you'll go back to driving the way you would rather do.

But remember, we all have to put up with some ####e once in a while, before you bail out on CFI, I would stick around and see what happens. Just my $.02.

The most importamnt thing ya gotta rememnber is,that truckin is a whole new life. No matter which outfit you go with, your whole world is gonna be turned around. No more 9 to 5 or 8 to 4 job.Sometimes your gonna have to run hours that you dont want to.There will be good days and bad days.Hang in there and things will probably level out.

You can thank the current hrs of service, which except for the restart is less flexible then the 10 and 8 they used to drive because of the stupid 14hr rule. Now any delays in dp or at the dock either takes away drive hrs or force you to run non stop with out being able to take a couple of breaks to clear your head and stretch your legs.

I'm not sure if the policy has changed or not.

But, yes you get to go on the board if you have an hour left. Whether you want to or not. Which sucks I know.

I used to get calls after picking up only 9 hours, and only needing 3 hours to get my full 70 back. They would use those 9 to move me down the road about 300 miles...too wait for another day to tick off.

Those days went far south in my last year there. They could hardly keep me moving.

Question? How would it work if you did have only one hour left to drive and you did not report to the company until that hour had expired? Can that be done and work for ya? Just curious, I have not chosen anybody to drive for yet and just wanting to learn before I get in and can't swim. My old days in trucking were for local freight, home every day.

Regardless of what hours you have one your logs, if you are fatigued then you are obligated to tell them that it's unsafe for you to drive and you'll be in touch after you get some rest. If they still push you then they are wrong. But I would just get the needed sleep and deal with them when you are ready and able. There isn't a dang thing they can do about it....what are they gonna do? fire you for doing the right thing? No freight is so important that you put your life and the lives of others at risk because of fatigue. You are the one that will take the heat if something happens.

This is correct, tell them you want to get them and safety on 3 way call so you can get safety to settle the problem...You may pay for it in bad loads for about a week as a retaliation act against you. But not long after that youll be right back to all you can do to keep up!!

good luck. cfi, a con-way company or con-way truckload, whatever those knuckleheads in joplin wanna call it is not the same as cfi was. i left there last month, and don't think i'll ever be back. everything getting worse, didn't see any chance of them turning it around after liz accepted the buy offer.

For you newbies out there who think you can just call safety when Op's try to get you to violate Federal Law or gives you a mission impossible should be aware that at many OTR companies this will punch your ticket to the Op's sh**t list for awhile. Or if you do it to often, maybe permanently. Been there done that.

Many of these OTR company's talk a lot about safety but you will soon find out how much they care about it when it means a late load and losing a cherished account and you getting a service failure you won't know about till it is on your DAC when you leave the company.

I got to the point driving OTR that I just took every Dp I was given and ran my hours. If you call safety every time the company gives you a MI then you will need a good phone plan.

Just send your macros and run your hours. You have 1 hour to run, then run it . Your stress will be lower because the company does not want to hear I can't do this and that because of this and that. At least none that I worked at did. USX would even tell you strait out, don't take the load and you might grow old sitting around waiting for your next one. Was sick with a bad fever at IDC, did they care? nuupe. Your the only truck around and we need the load pu. KLLM, what you were up all night sitting by your cb waiting for your number to be called? tuff we need this load covered or you might not get home when you need to. May Trucking, why did you shut down that load 50miles away from the receiver just becuase your 70 hours was up? And I could go on and on
