I know I obviously can't drink a six pack and go drive a truck, but my question is more about how strict companies are when it comes to down/home time. I know drug tests are normal, but will alcohol be a problem when it comes to what I choose to do while at home? I'm not even asking about otr even though I've heard some screwed up drivers on cb youtube. I'm more concerned with the tests. Sue me, I like to wind down and have a few beers on my own time, right? Also, I probably shouldn't drink at all the week leading up to going into orientation, huh?

home time i wouldn't worry @ it. but remember, with your brand new cdl comes a lot of interesting things, like your new BAC limit in your personal vehicle is now .04, just like when driving your truck.

Theirs only 2 types of alcohol testing, breathalyzer, and blood alcohol content(BAC). According towhat Ive stumbled across on the internet through random searches in the past, one beer will stay in you blood for one hour to two hours depending on body weight and usually takes two beers back to back beers to even register on a breathalyzer.

As long as you give yourself two hours for each beer your safe to drive.

    As in:

    1 beer = 2 hr. break
    2 beer = 4 hr. break
    12 beers = 24 hr. break
    24 beers = 48 hr. break

No one should drink 24 beers at a single setting, but I know some who have.

drinking rules apply in trucking like the rest of life
you have a day job be sober when you show up
going to orientation act professional while being paid to be there
more then one student has been sent home acting as if he was on vacation away from home
    while at the hotel
drinking in the truck is always illegal to any company
in a truck stop or not
This isn't 1980 when every mom and pop TS had bars

So as long as I'm not intoxicated when I show up or drive I'm good to go then? As well as no drinking in the truck.

LOL. When your in the truck your at work, so I wouldnt drink in the truck.
Dang how much do you drink to ask this?

Smart move asking in a forum, I wouldnt call my supervisor and ask these kinds of ?'s, or even another co driver.

The companies I have worked for stated that no alcohol was allowed on company property, at orientation, or 24 hrs prior to coming out of hometime.

Granted it is not the 80's, but most trucks tops still sell beer. I can't believe they get away with that.

Right, it sounds obvious enough, but I just thought I'd edit that post to include that. But like I said, I'm more concerned about the random drug tests than anything else. If alcohol is out of your system in a few hours, it shouldn't be much to worry about then.

" no alcohol was allowed on / in company property, at orientation, or 24 hrs prior to coming out of hometime." Thats the same rules I run my outfit under and so far only 1 CLOWN was sent down the road for having BOOZE in his truck
