Sounds like a good deal for you. I know that Lowe's has a dc in Hagerstown Md. and I noticed they had all loads covered for the drivers. I used to go to a terminal close to them 5 nights a week.
Down the road from me someone parks their truck and trailer but I have not had a chance to see who they are to talk to them.
Start at McElroy on Monday!

Yeah, all the Lowes want their loads tarped. Met a day cab guys from Hagerstown during "Final Week" of training. The Lowes DC loads are some of the loads I was talking about that have the tarps already draped across them when we arrive to pick them up. I've never been up to Hagerstown -- well, not with McElroy at least. I did live in MD for 5 years though. I've picked up at the Lowes DC in Brownsville, TN, Vonore, TN, & Purvis, MS.

Thanks for starting, and continuing, this thread RevKev. I Start at McElroy on Monday! at the Pleasant Hill terminal and am looking forward to it and have less questions than I'm sure I would have if I hadn't read this thread. Thanx again!!
RevKev Thanks this. -
GREAT THREAD!!!! I have been researching trucking companies for the past couple weeks and I've narrowed my choice down to Mcelroy and Averitt. I live in Atlanta and will probably end up going with Mcelroy since it seems like better pay starting out. (I don't mind tapping since it will help me stay in shape) lol
in the application process, I guess I passed the regular hr part and everything is going to the review board. But I guess if Warner, stevens and some other companies pre-hired me, I shouldn't have a problem with Mcelroy. Can't wait to get started with them. One question, since I live in atlanta, do you know how it works on the weekend? Do I just take my truck home? Or do they have a place to park it in atlanta. -
Hmm...my guess is that being from Atlanta, you'd most likely be dispatched out of the Pleasant Hill, NC terminal. As for parking the truck, if you have room at home, you can park it there. But keep in mind you'll need room for the tractor AND trailer, as McElroy doesn't allow bobtailing. A lot of Lowes stores will let MTL drivers park in their lots for the weekend. I park mine at a nearby small truck stop.

Thanks for the reply. One more question / request... I've seen the pics of the outside of your truck, but if you don't mind, can you post some pics of the inside of your truck????
Thanks in advance -
Sorry, but I don't have any of the inside, but you can see some pics by doing a search on google images. Just put in "inside of international ProStar. Of course, keep in mind ours are plain jane, no fancy wood grain finishes or anything. lol

Last question. It's been a couple months since you posted your mileage and income averages. Are you still pretty much doing the same? Thanks again for your helpful answers -
I enjoyed my time at McElroy and it was the perfect fit for me straight out of school. I wanted to be home every weekend and I was. (Except the weekend I turned in my 9200 for a prostar).
I knew I wouldn't get rich there, but I knew I'd make enough for me and be home every weekend and I did.
Biggest tip I can give a new MTL driver: if you need anything hit up the South Pittsburgh terminal. Great bunch of guys! I parked my truck there on the weekends.
I got my year in, my school 100% reimbursed, and decided to move onto refer to experience that. -
I lived in Chattanooga and my terminal was NC, even though I parked at S.
Pitts in central. I never once got close enough to Pleasant Hill to stop by or have ever talked to anyone there.RevKev Thanks this.
