i'm 24 and I live in az. i'm ashamed to say that my track record for staying with a company is horrible. the longest I've been able to stay with one place before getting fed up was 10 months. i'm sick of this job hopping looking for a decent company. i'm a flatbedder so i'm looking for a flatbed company that runs western states. I don't mind running Midwest but east coast is out of the question (ok, maybe one in a while I can sacrifice). I have 30 something odd months of driving experience, 2 years of that is flatbed. the rest is misc other bullcrap. I've worked for Roehl (that's where my 2 years flatbed comes from) so they are out. I attended melton truck lines orientation and they are f**ked, they have cameras in their trucks. i'm not sure what options there are for flatbed that would keep me closer to home. I need to be closer to home because of my fathers health problems. if it wasn't for that i'd be more than willing to do east coast runs. what companies are out there that have decent home time, decent equipment and decent pay?

Not all of our trucks have cameras. You wouldnt have stayed with melton anyways because of your no east policy.

Maybe try system. They are a west coast-ish company. They do go east, but maybe they have regions or something they could keep you in.

melton isn't a bad company, they pay well and the miles are there but they issued everybody in our orientation class trucks with cameras. I don't mind it if it's facing forward but I hated it looking at me, I felt invaded. the other thing I didn't like was that annoying deal that buzzed when you went towards the white or yellow line. it got annoying going through construction zones every 15 minutes. I hit the button to turn it off but got a #### critical event reporting warning on the QUALCOMM if I did it more that twice. I did like the Laredo terminal where you could pay the Mexicans to tarp your load for you. I appreciate the info. i'll have to look into system. tell me, what's your average length of haul with melton?

Yes, System Transport does have Western Regional and a terminal in Phoenix. Also APU's.

Yeah I agree the lane departure is annoying as hell. I don't know what I did, but I hit the switch so much it shorted out or something....it hasn't made a peep since maybe november. Aversge haul is 7-1000 I'd say. Very few loads are shorter than that.

It's a camera facing forward that growls at you if you start getting to close to the lines. Right side line, growl comes from right side speaker. Left side line, left side speaker.

I drove a truck that had one of those in it. It has a camera that sits in the window and see the lines on the road. Get close to the line on the left and an horrible annoying sounds comes from the speaker on the left. Get over the right lane and the same thing happens from the speaker on the right. Fine and dandy when they work right. Sometimes a passing car will set it off. Off ramps some times confuse it. Glaring sun light on a road with lots of cracks that have been tarred with give it spasms. The one I drove had a switch that would turn it off for about 10 minutes then it comes back on automatically. When you use your turn signals, four ways, or are on the brake or below 40mph it's supposed to disable it. I didn't care for it.

aztrucker89-- Have you looked at Central Oregon Truck Co? Most of their drivers work the western region.
