I have been with Con-Way since August of last year and I on average run 3000 mi/week. Did sit a few times but once I complained to the retention person I have been run good. Many times I deliver my loads earlier than planned and never made a fuss about a short load. You have to take short loads from time to time but like I said 3000-3200 a week average. Of course when I go home -every three weeks- it is a smaller check. One week I had 4000 miles in week and had to run on my recap. If you can not run on your recap you will be down for a 34 restart. I run my recap and do 34 hour restarts when on home time. Sounds to me that you are not very good at planning your time and hours. I am happy at Con-Way and looking into becoming an O/O with them as I have chatted to several O/O's and all of them are making 4000-5500 a week.

    Yeah, right!
To ANYONE considering signing on with Conway Truckload: Don't believe anything you read on these posts! Yep! Including my own posts, with one exception:
Personally go to any truck stop (Pilot, TA, Loves, Petro, etc.) and personally speak with the drivers in person. Ask them about average miles, conditions, family health insurance and how long they have worked there.
    Beware the paid, online trolls!

Just want to toss in my "wannabe .02 worth" on the issue of who to trust/who not to trust in the very strange world of truck driving career information. Since I've been working on getting information for several months I feel like I have a bit of experience now, at least on this topic.

I agree that it is good advice to never trust anyone online unless you know them personally...we tell our kids that all of the time and it goes for adults too. But, should we just instantly trust someone who we've just met at a truck stop? If I decide to do driver interviews at my local TA, I'm going to want to get at least 10 interviews to get a reliable sampling...sounds easy enough. But, if I just want to hear from Conway Truckload drivers, I am going to have to spend days just sitting there waiting. I've called my two closest Conway Freight terminals (St. Rose, LA and Gulfport, MS) and asked how often Conway TL drivers might be there and available for a quick interview. The chances there are no better than the TA.

So, even though the advice from Surfer Joe to talk to drivers is reasonable, when a Wannabe is looking for information about a specific company from several different sources, it is just not practical advice.

The best solution to this problem IMHO, as far as Conway Truckload is concerned, is to listen in to the daily chatter on the "Conway Truckload Drivers what is your 20" thread. After a week or two, you can tell that the regular posters there are real drivers, in the real world, dealing with real world problems and not "paid online trolls".

There is a chance that they have me fooled but, in the end, a Wannabe has to make a decision, and has to go with what each believes is the best available information. For me, when they post, I listen.

If they bash their company as so many do, then be sure to ask the following question, which is the most important.

If you're so unhappy, why do you still work for them?

With few exceptions, trucking is an industry where you can leave your current employer and go to a new one the next day. The only other jobs I know like that are commission-only sales and call center work.

In my time as a trucker I've made it a point to talk to a lot of people at truck stops. The ones that bash their company and can't leave all fall into several categories, without exception.

They're new and earning their wings.
I see this most often with megacarriers or starter companies. They're in to do their 90 days/6 months/2 years etc and then get hired on with a new company. While the megacarriers do have their issues, 99% of the complaints I hear from drivers in this category are standard issues with the industry and they instead blame the company they're working for.

They're locked into some kind of contract and will owe a ton of money if they leave.
Mostly new drivers who may be locked into tuition reimbursements from CDL school which require indentured servitude for a year or two.

They can't get hired anywhere else. For some reason or another, nobody else but bottom feeder companies will hire them. They have moving violations or accidents or DUIs or some other thing that prevents them from being hired on by a better company. Anyone who can't get hired somewhere else after two years? That's NOT the trucker you want to be taking advice from.

They're full of it and just like to hear themselves complain. Most common. They don't really have any real beef with their company, but they want to be a hardass in front of the other truckers they come across.

Come to think of it, I can't think of anyone I've talked to that's stayed with a company for 5+ years and had anything bad to say about it that was unique to that company.

We did that, talked to a lady Conway at at T/A and she said she was getting less than 2,000 miles a week and was moving her truck somewhere. I am not saying they are good or bad, just what she told us.
