Before the economy took a dive Schneider and others were already recruiting worldwide and using as many immigrants as law would allow. They were very disappointed when Bush's Guest Worker bill to allow an increase in immigrant workers didn't pass.
Mexicans won't take driving jobs. There is a steady supply of CDL mill graduates willing to work cheaper.

As you no i am in NY.There is many many men and woman i talk to from another country. As i talk to these drivers,i am overwhelmed with there KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING of the trucking business..It is a MYTH that they work cheap...

I see more American Born Dummies working cheap and drinking the kool aid than i have ever seen in all my years of driving. It amazes me how dumbed down the AMERICAN has become..The drivers i chat with from other countries just Laugh at these American Drivers...

I want to know WHY is it that the drivers from another country are so dam smart and the american that has been born and raised here can be so stupid..It baffles me...Some of the smarted drivers i talk to are the Russians out of Chicago. Most of these guys will not tolerate much...

It's because Americans are lazy and gullible. They need a job , think anybody can be a trucker and ride up and down the road. So they go to a CDL mill or starter carrier and never do the math to figure how many miles you have to run at $.28 a mile to make $60,000 a year. They never check a carrier's fleet size year to year and ask why orientation classes are filled every week when the fleet size stays the same.
There are good starting opportunities out there but finding them would take hours of research and interviews. It's much easier to sign up with the recruiters going to CDL mills.

I am a trucker and farmer and each year we hire Mexicans, We pay 10.50 per hour for farm labor and can't find local help that is willing to work but 90% of Mexicans don't drive but they do work hard and will not take a lunch break. I said all that to say this: "Americans grow up driving but Mexicans don't have exposure to vehicles’ like we do" Understand English is another big problem that's why I learned to speak and write Spanish but out there in the trucking world it's important that your driver understands English. The law should state that in order to use your CDL you must pass a English test.

ATA reported that there is over 1,500 trucks abandoned at rest areas, truck stops and other places, it is said these guys go throught CDL and orientation tranining but once on the road things don't work out as the Recruiter said so they quit in the field and these companies train drivers and bus them out in teams to pick up trucks and loads that are abandoned.

The POEs in WY will require a driver to read to them in English. If they cannot, they are shut down on the spot. That needs to happen EVERYWHERE.

While i don't think there ought to be language requirements for the country for the sake of safety everyone needs to be able to read the signs, msds, etc since these things are in English, it should be a crime to create an occupational hazard by not being able to read them.
