I wish it was that easy finding job in N.Dakota. Everybody wants experienced drives only. I've called a bunch of companies there. I'll graduate from Sage Tech in Missoula in a week so I am looking for same thing. If you want just to get your CDL and just get a oil haul job ... it's not that easy.
-
Flavius, I keep hearing it is easier to find a job when you get there. How much did they charge you for driving school?
-
You might be better off in TX. It will be winter in ND in 90 days. You don't want to learn to drive a truck in those conditions. I think there is a list somewhere on this forum of companies that will hire you straight out of school. I think maybe Schneider but really there is a list.

Any idea what the money would be like in TX?
-
A little less than ND. I'll let you know for sure in a few weeks. I'm moving to Corpus next week. The big difference is going to be in the cost of living and the weather.
-
I'm interested to hear how everything goes for you. Good luck

$4.500 and I know that's a rip off. For me it was few hundred cheaper as I have CDL B and DOT medical . Do not make same mistake as I did and go in same school. I think it's some kind of "rule" (maybe law?) that they must provide a student with 150 hours of learning but the catch is that 2/3 of that time you will spend in classroom not behind the wheel. Learning unnecessary ########. Books which they provide are 20+ years old and almost worthless.
That is my goal for now. Texas. I live in Montana so that's nothing new for me. I already drove big vehicles in deep snow but not a tanker which I know it is a mile apart experience.
I would like to thank you Sir Chibob for heads up. Please DO NOT make same mistake as a lot of people who go first and Dakota. Check the availability of house/condo etc. Rent is usually $1200 per week. It all depends where you are renting it and how big the place is. I hope you'll update your status as you get settled there. Good luck Sir.Last edited by a moderator: Jul 29, 2013

I was thinking jobs in general but it could be either. Other trucking jobs, we don't throw around the kind of numbers you hear in the oilfield. There will probably be a select few, I guess, but overall, and particularly for a beginner, no.

Surely you don't mean TX. I am going to Corpus Christi. I've checked the ads for apts there and they go anywhere from $550-1450 for a one bdrm.
