I was doing a survey of the difference between the paid (Household Goods Movers Guide) miles and actual miles for the past quarter.
82.2% of the time I was paid less than actual miles. Laws of randomness would seem to dictate that that number should be closer to 50% - a coin flip.
Spoke to the lawyer in Arizona suing Swift about this and she said they have been in court over this for nearly a decade and that everyone knows it's sketchy but no one wanted to do anything precisely because the legal fight would take a decade or more and cost a fortune.

All carriers I know of let you know how they pay when you are hired. If you accept it you have no grounds for suit. HHG was pretty much the standard until new technology allowed practical miles to be calculated.
Very few carriers pay actual miles. -
Back in '88 I drove from Milwaukee to St Louis actual was 400 miles, was paid for 360, and Milwaukee to Denver was actual like around 1,049 was paid for 1,029..
-
I choose hhg over practical, but I receive 3 cpm more for taking hhg. No brainer. Running regional alot of my runs work out better

I really don't understand why people get so angry about this. The company isn't trying to rip you off, they have to have some standard guide upon which to quote rates, therefore they pay off that guide as well. I don't even bother checking discrepancies between paid vs. actual because a.) I don't care enough about 5 or 10 bucks a load to whine about it and b.) even if I did, they aren't going to pay me the 5 or 10 bucks because I whined about it.
sherlock510 and chalupa Thank this. -
chalupa Thanks this.

I'm sure they have, but aren't most companies paying practical miles these days? So it isn't as if drivers haven't had a change as well. Using a computer does make things much easier, but programs like Google Maps will shortchange you as well since they don't take into account truck routing.
There isn't a perfect method that will make everyone on both sides happy, but what we've got isn't nearly as horrible as some make it out to be. -
-
Then I stand corrected. I thought the majority had switched over. I'm not sure what the difference is in practical vs. Hhg in terms of numbers, though I am aware that hhg is generally shorter.

average 8% difference
