Is that tarped? You are going into no mans land that unless you're from there and have a load out, you're going in for a one way rate. Very good possibility of deadheading anywhere from 200 to 600 miles out to get a decent load. Even if a load is available out from there it will most likely be heave and pay just over $1.00 per mile, so the rate down would not work financially for the majority of O/O's especially if they are also tarping.

bullhaulerswife and NMills377 Thank this.

I'm going out on a limb and say 8' lumber tarps needed in the Florida heat and humidity? Take deadhead to pickup the load, and however many miles mapquest is off from the actual miles, and what should be at least $125.00 tarp pay, you're now at $700.00, and falling because of no loads back out. That load should pay at least $1500.00. That will never happen, but that's what it should pay at minimum..

An intra-state driver would be the only hope at $1100.00. Maybe a few desperate at $825.00. The tarping is killing it. -

NMills377, when you price a load, you need to take into account the miles. The shorter, especially if it will take up two days, the higher, much higher the rate should be. Look at the area the load is going to. Check the amount of loads and what they are paying. If not too many loads, low rates, or both, that is a dead area. You will have to find the next closest place to the destination that has decent paying loads with some volume, and price the load high enough so the driver can deadhead to one of those better freight areas.
If you take $2.00 per mile into someplace, sit a day, the deadhead halfway back to pick up another $2.00 load, the rate is now $1.00. Quick way to go broke.NMills377 Thanks this. -
I live at lake city and i wouldnt pick up the phone at that rate, best case scenario you get a 400 load of sod back out, and thats hit or miss.
$2 a mile isnt a magical number especially on a short run th at will kill all day .
Now if you offer that out of miami to lake city, yea thats a #backhaul# -
Its rained ever day in fl for the last mo btw, thats a tarp load not a keep dry lol
NMills377 Thanks this.
