they have every truck pretty much but I see mostly volvo and internationals.
I had the small volvo at first and hated it, got me an international prostar now with a double bunk, I use the top bunk just for storage and 2 mattress's on the bottom for better comfort, I love the prostar so much more.
and like squeek said yeah late night loads, some people love them and some hate them, I like traffic is lower and stuff but I have more trouble seeing especially on mountain roads and it seems like most cars like to have their dang brights on and refuse to turn them off even when you flash them. Side note I HATE cars with those hyper blue lights, purple lights etc, those hurt my eyes.
oh and time with your mentor will vary day wise, its 240 hours you have to do, I did it in about a month with mine, some I have seen take up to 2 months.
Is swift a good company?

I dislike those people who stay running with there brights on and not looking out 4 the 1's who is going north or south bound.......you was a pretty good driver then to finish within a month of your training did it take you awhile to learn how to shift
-
no shifting came natural for me, I learned how to drive on a manual before I ever even got a permit when I was 15, shifting the truck wasnt much harder for me, where I had more trouble was backing a trailer in. Some have trouble shifting though, they try to claim its easier to learn if you never used a clutch in your life but I argue that statement, you have to have good coordination, I float often nowadays too never using the clutch but mostly in traffic since I get clutch leg. Swift is against floating, if your a good shifter you will never hurt that transmission, never force a gear.
-
I guess that's going to be my #1 problem I never really driven a manual not until I got in a truck which was like wow
-
it just takes practice, i have seen some who never touched a clutch and picked up pretty well, with trucking it takes practice for everything, shifting, backing, turning etc.
Biggest tip any driver can ever give you is take your time, never rush anything, also its better to turn too wide than too short. Never 2nd guess yourself on the right move, if you follow those tips you will be better off. Its also better to have a load late than to have an accident or worse...I know none of my loads has ever been worth my life, maybe the one high value trailer full of Nike shoes came close but...mattbh23 Thanks this. -
you right about that I just hope my mentor can deal with me on that lol........awww mayne a whole trailer full of nike shoes yeah that is high value
-
oh yeah it was worth over $250k, some of those shoes are way too expensive, I will never own a pair myself. Most I have ever spent on shoes was $150 but those were birkenstocks for work when I was a chef and I still have them today in good condition, bought them back in 2005...birkenstocks are very high quality. My normal shoes most I have spent is $75 for DC's. My DC's I wear right now was $100 BUT I bought them a couple years ago and when I went to the beach there was a package deal for $90 you could get any pair of shoes, backpack, shirt and hat so I chose the most expensive of everything lol, the shoes are still in good condition with no holes, skater shoes last a long time when you dont actually skateboard lol. Hurt myself too much when I was a teen trying to skate.
-
oh and to add about high value loads, you never accept them unless you can drive at least 200 miles before stopping unless you stop at a Swift secured yard, I mostly see high value go to teams since they can keep rolling nonstop but I have gotten a couple.
-
wow that's a lot of money just in that 1 trailer......ohhh and the shoes I have all together I know it's a close to a grand but that's like 7 pair of jordons not including boots lolz.......I just hope that I can finally pull thru this and finish what I started back when I was 22 or 23
-
I dont know what some of the most expensive loads are out there but I know there are some higher than that. I just estimated when I looked through the bol and it states how many pairs and I averaged a cost of a Nike shoe and got an idea, heck the trailer could of been full of all $300 pairs but who knows.
Some loads I wonder how much a shipper pays, I get some loads where its full of pallets and I think man its got to be expensive just to be moving some wood around. I can see why we pay such high prices for some stuff out there and when fuel goes up in price it hurts every single person.
