I have been in the auto transport business since 2004, and I have to say it is worse today than it was then. Like TAK said, its a a capitalism problem. We who like to make a profit we think we deserve (15-25%), cant compete with the guy just happy to keep the lights on. Remember the american dream is different for all of us. When you come from a foreign country where making $200 a month is normal,$2000 a month is great! Also remember who you are dealing with. Car Salesmen! Those weasels are always trying to screw someone. Or the general public who thinks you owe the your best price for the one car they will transport in a lifetime.

I look at it this way, and yes, this may ruffle a few feathers but here goes, one of three things are happening,
Either the brokers are simply not telling the customer what it is really going to cost to move the vehicle up front. (Keep on bumping the price to the customer.)
Or they ARE charging enough to move the car but are "hiding" to much "in reserve" and what is posted will take some time to move the car, but the broker makes a killing. (They are simply greedy and want to make as much as the carrier)
Or the broker just really has NO idea of what they should have really quoted the customer to move this specific car.
(They are a new fly-by-night shop that has little if any exp. in this business).
BUT the bottom line in all of this scenario's IS THE BROKER!!!AlexCarHauler, LBZ, TAK12LLC and 1 other person Thank this. -
But just like any other segment of transport, carriers are dumb enough to move it. They do not know their costs, put nothing back for tomorrow & more than likely think they are doing OK. There needs to be some education on rates from the smallest of cars to the biggest.
Remember listening to some full of **** broker that he could move any car for $.39 cpm from & to anywhere. LOVE seeing his stuff sit! -

Sapper, I understand what you are saying, but unfortunately, it's just not that simple, because our main business out bound is larger vehicles, buses and high top vans, we are very limited as to what I will accept to haul back, because on a lowboy, in most cases, the best I can do is three vehicles since we do not stack anything.
Which means I will deadhead my truck a good distance before I haul anything under .60cpm, now if you are running a 6/7 car or anything bigger, then of course that .40cpm is probably not bad.
I guess it just comes down to what you are comfortable with, that's why I think it has to start with the broker, such as yourself, putting out a good price to start with. Just for the hell of it go to CD and enter ALL to ALL for say 6 days, then put in a low price of like .10cpm and look at all the crap listed at a stupid price.
However, I can tell you that I have run into a couple of instances here lately, where a broker will list a vehicle for said price, I call and will haul it for said price, only to find out that the broker NEVER told the customer he upped the price of the move, that kind of crap just gives the whole industry a black eye.

Does anyone know why CarsArrive is anti dispatchers? I had a buddy of mine who was signed up with them and when they found out he was using a dispatcher they dropped him. Whats even crazier is that when he tried using them about a month later they said he needed a notarized letter saying he wasn't using a dispatch service. Its tough to drive and handle all the paperwork and getting cars. I think its important to have that person in a office taking care of everything and getting the better loads. I don't think a broker should have the right to say if you can or cant use a service. Just curious if anyone had any input on this?

That dispatcher is suppose to act as a agent for the company they are loading. Sounds as if they said they were with ABC Dispatch requesting a order for X Transport. Cars Arrive may have interpreted that as trying to double broker.

Cars Arrive did not say he could not use a dispatch service. They said he could not have a dispatch service request Cars Arrive loads for a carrier. One of the reasons for the decision was mentioned in the prior post. They got burned by a dispatch service requesting loads for multiple carriers and then throwing them out on Central Dispatch instead of having said carrier(s) move the vehicle. And also had a dispatch service requesting loads for a carrier that is signed up with them only to have the vehicle moved by a carrier not signed up and also by a carrier that had been shut off due to bad service.MidwestMagellan Thanks this. -
Thanks for all the input. I thought I had probably not had the whole picture. They have great loads a lot of the time and I want to use them on a regular basis. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks again.
