I will be receiving my new hearing aids in a few days. I am hoping that they will ensure that I pass a DOT physical. Does anyone here on the forum have damaged hearing, and have to use them? If so, is it easy to hear a forced whisper during the hearing test in the DOT physical? This is my biggest concern getting hired with a trucking company.

Driver I have seen other drivers with hearing aids! When they speak the forced whisper turn the volume all the way up on the aids, Then reach up and ajust it back to where you need it. I wish you luck.

I have hearing aids. Got them compliments of the VA. I don't HAVE To have to, but they are nice to have. The earlier you start wearing them the better it is as it was explained to me. Easier for your hearing to adjust to them when you are younger than older.

Thanks. I am getting them compliments of the VA in fact. My blood pressure I can get under control, but my hearing loss cannot be fixed. I am really sweating this one. Hopefully, I will hear the whisper okay. I was tested recently by the VA audiologist and found that my heaing loss in both ears is right at 40 db, the threshold required to pass a DOT physical. With hearing aids, I am keeping my fingers crossed I will be able to pass

Mine is about the same level. You'll do fine. Try the physical with and without the hearing aids. See what your doctor wants.

    ETA.....

GET The ones with bluetooth in them. You can get them to connect to your phone and you can use them for hands-free then. My audiologist has them also and uses the same model he will be replacing mine with on Aug 26th.

What hearing aids are you getting? I need something for my left ear, right ear is not too bad but I don't think I could hear a forced whisper with my left ear. It's a bit of blessing, most of the time :)

To pass the DOT physical, you only have to pass the test with the best ear. As for what I am getting, the doc told me but I don't remember exactly the brand. However, they look like the one in the link provided by MNdriver.

Wow, Giggles, that is awesome. That gives me real hope because my hearing loss is not that severe.
