Well good to know that some trainer may strand me in the middle of nowhere. I have never hunted ####### but there is always a first if I get stranded for no good reason. Thanks for the advise so far. Just trying to stay ahead of the game.
What expenses do I cover, and what do companies cover, when driving a company truck?

What all others are saying is true. Most all companies will reimburse you for money you paid that is they're responsiblity. Just keep the receipts to turn in when you can. I never carried more than $100 cash at any given time. However I did carry a debit card just in case. I dont have a credit card and unless your a O/O or a high spender, you wont need one.

If you are routed through ks and ok on a regular basis then your company should get the toll tag for them. I know there is one. Sun tag is it called? Something like that. If you see it once a year then no big deal but its pretty stupid to do it on a regular basis because one day you will get screwed. Like I said. If you gotta throw a few bucks out now and then no big deal but I wouldn't do it on a regular basis or make a habit of it. Companies will make out in the long run. Thats what they all aim for.
And I mentioned crst with the toll thing because I remember reading about guys complaining they weren't getting the money back. Also heard it first hand from one of their drivers. -
I believe it is K tag for Kansas, Pike Pass for Oklahoma and I think sun pass is for Florida.Bilbirk Thanks this.

Every dime you spend for truck expenses is monitored and re-imbursed, such as tolls/scale tickets/lumpers. Fuel and big repairs, like tires or major engine work will be billed direct to the company. All major companies have charge accts with all major tire suppliers and shops and of course, fuel stops. Sometimes, you will a big repair on the road somewhere and the repair shop wants payment NOW. So, your company will issue a com-check to you and then you get a receipt fron the repair shop and turn it in. ALWAYS get copies of receipts, in case your company loses your receipt, which does happen.

Make sure whom ever you go to work for that you ask plenty of questions and do yourself a Huge favor and write those questions down. If a recruiter doesnt have those answers beware or dont hesitate to wait for the answers. Most new hire companies will pay for everything but your food and personal items and dont get caught up in trying to buy everything your trainer has it takes time and alot of money. You may need to pay a toll or fax copy but you shouldnt have to pay for much else. I would recomend not carring cash get yourself a debit card if you dont have one already. Good luck and do your homework on companies.

I run all over the lower 48... I'm fine with paying out of pocket tolls and geting them back soon as I release my load rather than having 5 or 6 differant boxes on my windshield. And Pete, in case you didn't know it, you can send in a Unloading Request for a comcheck for any thing like that if you are just broke ### that week for some odd reason. Th eonly disagreement I have with Tyson over fees is when they send us somewhere with paid parking (Orlando, VA Beach), but they don't pay for parking.. If you get it cleared in advance they normally will however. Of course a lot of it depends on your payroll lady... Dont know what fleet your on, but I liked Amanda (who is no longer with us, she moved on to corporate) much better than I like the one I have now.

Think that may have been a tad bit exaggerated owner ops carrying at least 10k on them. With the crime rate highly unlikely. If you go to the northeast and your company doesn't have a transponder like eazy pass then mave at least $200.00 but its best to have that amount anyway or money for tolls incase your easy pass isn't working. Then you have scales sometimes lumpers. But most companies have checks they issue to you during orientation for lumpers. They you have the trk and maybe trl wash.Scales anything for the trk like bulbs cleaning supplies but of course you have to ok all that with your company.
