I got the call today! Starting work in the oilfields

    After 2 weeks of waiting I got the call from Sunoco Logistics, I will be starting a week from Monday. It's been a long process but well worth it in the end. I will be running out of San Angelo after orientation in Abilene. It's been a tough decision ending a career as a fireman but I think this is worth it in the long term. Stale economy here in Missouri and no promotions or raises in sight were a deciding factor. Sometimes you have to risk a lot to gain a lot. Sunoco seems to be a great company with plenty of room for advancement if one would want to get out of the truck and try another position. Thanks to all who have answered my questions in this forum as I researched this line of work. Good luck to those still applying and getting into the oilfield.

    First you must apply online thru their website. After they contact you, a physical, drug test and interview and work competency test will be given. You will go home and wait the results from all of that process and you will be contacted with an offer or a denial. That is it in short. It's quite a process and they are very thorough so be prepared and be honest.

    Congrats fellow firefighter. I myself have left the fire service after 16 yrs and now I'm a O/O. My dad was Trucker and had he's own authority with 8 rigs when I was a kid. Never thought I would be doing what he did but I guess it's in my blood. Wish you well my brotha.

    To the guys who come into the industry and think you are going to hide that little mishap, it isn't going to happen here, Being totally transparent, Is the only way to get to do something like this, This guy is going to be making very good money, he is going to be driving the truck of his Dream, And he will probably be going to his last job, he will certainly retire, I'm not sure what his goal is but I would certainly set it to retire from this company, I have my goals set, I have about another year and I have been watching a company that I am going to go to work for, Once I get my record straightened out, till then I will stay in the big lake with all of the other fish doing what we do to survive,

    Thanks LuvtoTruk! You are correct, I have landed a very good career with a very good company. My experience and my ability to maintain a clear driving and criminal record have given me the opportunity to do this. I have driven trucks since I was 18, my dad was a former owner operator so trucking is in my blood. I left it for short periods of time, but always ended up back in the seat. It's what I do, it's what I know, it's what I'm good at. To those trying to get a job like this, your past will dictate your future. Always remember that. I am looking forward to what this opportunity will provide for my family and I. If I can help anyone along in their process of getting into this field I will do my best.

    We can only inprove the industry from working on the inside, I appreciate the advice and help you offer, Like I said I have a little work that needs to be done on my record and then I have my eyes set on a gig, that isn't going to stop anytime soon. Take Care Thanks.
