Setting my idle to 900 vs 800 RPM results in a very noticeable difference. 800 and the cab blows cool air while sleeper blows mildly warm. Set it to 900rpm and cab blows cold while sleeper also blows cold...... Very weird

I would attribute this to the compressor building up more pressure. My system performing in that same manner w/ new compressor and correct amount of freon. Tmrw night I will swap out expansion valves as I believe the original is staying stuck in the open position. Low side reads 50 and high side is @ 160. Prior to the restoration, low side was 45ish, high side was 100. I assumed I had a weak compressor.

Wow, sorry, I thought my reply went thru earlier. It is supposedly coupled to the bunk evaporator. On my 379, above the passenger fuel tank, there are two a/c pressure lines running into the floorboard. That is the evaporator. I am going to try to access via beneath the matress. I see a wooden panel that can be removed, displaying a clear view of a black box type container. You will see the filter. It looks as if one must unfasten all of the bolts going all of the way around or maybe just remove the blower fan.

Well, the culprit was the expansion valve in the bunk unit. Removed the board, uncouple elect terminals, removed blower and then the housing. Instantly one can hear high flow circulation of freon thru the evaporator. Evacuated the system. I had to remove the evap as the low side fitting was froze tight due to age. Once in the vice, a good dose of WD40 it squeaked rt off. New orings then vacuum for 45 min. I let it sit overnight w/manifold gauges to be sure of zero leaks. Recharged system. Blows 62 degrees in 102 @ 900 rpm idle.

Perhaps it could blow a bit colder. I may have benefit more had I thrown in a new condensor. The original seemed to flow freely. Coldest it has blown thus far is 56 degrees in 102 temp. I'm happy with it. I will replace the rubber lines and condensor at the end of winter though. 10dash4.

when you plugged in the with compressor of it should read well over 100. closer to 150. not 35, when the compressor kick on it should come down, not go to 65, and when it is turned off it should settle back up to whatever it was before, or higher if you added freon. First find and fix the leak or you will always be waking up hot. I then put an expansion valve and a drier, pull a vacum and put what ever amount of freon that was put in it at the factory. It will work, if it dosent look some where else it's not freon. Some are going to tell you what the gauges are sopposed to read and if you do this every day thats fine, but you can get one reading in the front yard, pull around back and get another. If i understand your reading it sounds like you could have read the high side gauge and its real low of freon.

turn the engine fan on manually and allow it to run continuosly as you idle.makes a difference in the cooling of the a/c.
