Passport, since you are our Tech Support guy we are going to wait and let you try it out first!:biggrin_255: How much do the USB GPS systems cost? Do they require an internet connection? Let us know when you have it up and running.

    Abandon ship!

The USB, GPS "puck" is about $35, shipping included off Amazon. Some people, smarter than me, a have it figured out so they can tether their phone to their laptop and use the GPS on the phone instead.

The software recommend to me so far is DeLorme Street Atlas 2013 and CoPilot Live. I can get a free copy of CoPilot, so that is what I will use. http://www.copilotlive.com/us/truck/

Once you have it set up, the software loads the maps, POI, etc. data bases, just like the self contained units, no internet connection needed. However, you can get much better "live" info, traffic and weather, etc. if you have a connection up and running.

I don't have everything with me here on vacation, I should have something working, end of next month.

Sounds pretty neat .....be sure and let us know when you have it up and going. It's always good to know what options are out there and be able to do a cost comparison.

Honeybadger, maybe I am typing in the wrong information, but I didn't find the Plaza Go in Hutchinson on dieselboss either. Would you look when you get a chance and tell me what you typed in to find it? Thanks! New OTR Wife is right it is not on Findfuelstops, but it is on TruckerMiles. I think the point is that we all use a combination of tools to do what we can. We all have our favorites, some are free online, some things you must purchase ....like the truck stop guide. I know money is tight when you are first starting and you don't want to purchase something that doesn't do what you need it to do. With experience everyone learns what works for them and what is worth spending your hard earned dollars on. Many of the things that are needed you will be able to get at the truck stops using reward points. A truck stop guide is another good investment. We do have good folks here ....all of them willing to share what has worked for them and new ideas to try. They are also willing to share their knowledge and experience and that is the most valuable of all, you can't find that online or purchase it at a truck stop. The most important bit of advice is that miles are money and time is miles ... you always protect your time.

    Beat you to it!:biggrin_25522:

    Escape Off The Island

There were three people stranded on an island; a brunette, a redhead, and a blonde. The brunette looked over the water to the mainland and estimated it was about 20 miles to shore. So she announced, "I'm going to try to swim to shore." So she swam out five miles, and got really tired. She swam out ten miles from the island, and she was too tired to go on, so she drowned.

The second one, the redhead, said to herself, "I wonder if she made it. I guess it's better to try to get to the mainland than stay here and starve." So she attempts to swim out. The redhead had a lot more endurance than the brunette, as she swam out 10 miles before she even got tired. After 15 miles, she was too tired to go on, so she drowned.

So the blonde thought to herself, "I wonder if they made it! I think I'd better try to make it, too." So she swam out 5 miles, ten miles, fifteen miles, and finally nineteen miles from the island. The shore was just in sight, but she said, "I'm too tired to go on!" So she turned round and swam back.
