As long as your total trailer and load do not exceed 53' you are legal over 53 you will need a permit

I got a ticket on I 40 at the weigh station in NC because I had bags of sand on pallets, each pallet weight was 5k.
The ticket cost $100.00 because anything over 2k pounds had to have at least 2 straps on the front if it was greater than 5 feet from the headboard if it wasn't blocked by braces. I only had 1 strap on the front pallet.
For what ever that is worth, just passing it along.

Yeah, thats usually the first thing drivers need to know about flat-bedding. Cops can see very quickly that you are untrained if you dont know basic tie down laws.

Why wouldn't you want to put extra securement on the front pallet anyways? I would always put 2 straps and then X strap the pallets also. Preventing forward movement is a big thing too.

Great site! Im new to this, I've been asking the shipper every time I pick up loads they always helped me. I ask the drivers as well on the site. They are so kind they helped me out every time , and there were many drivers where they actually helped me tie down my loads..One thing i realized is most drivers look out for each other. This site is very helpful for me as well. Thank you drivers be safe

    Thanks

    John,

I'm relatively new to and you are right, it is amazing how kind and helpful the other drivers are. Even when I was with a bad / shady company, it was the other drivers there that looked out for me / pointed out what to watch for with the company, ie being over loaded / fines, etc....

I'm not sure if I've been lucky and have ran with a bunch of really great guys but it makes me wonder why truckers have a bad rap, I've seen nothing but great guys out there. Actually I've been OTR and I know why there is a bad rap.
